Pretty darn sharp. It's hard to use yellow with being too bright, but you did it!

Very green. Green designs are hard to pull off, but you have done a good job.

This is pretty cool for the fact your brave enough to use colors not commonly used for websites. It's bold, colorful, and well laid out.

Nice work, as you know. If you're going to use the Lorem Ipsum writing, go to lipsum.com and have it formulate paragraphs for you. Repetetive type like "lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" can be distracting. You'd be better off copy+pasting random words just so you get a good rag.

CAN YOU SAY STOLEN FROM [link] OMG!
Maybe not identical, but come on, come up with your own stuff man.
It's obvious you were TRYING to copy JWTS, and that you didnt just coincidentally get
a similar layout after having a sub-concious image of the site in your head.
bad person!

As I've already stated twice now, in a comment on $jark 's journal and in a comment on his poll, this design took a lot of inspiration from JWTS. It also took inspiration from a number of other sites, such as Evgord and numerous other design blogs.
Rather than repeat myself for the third time about why it looks so similar to JWTS or how very, very different many of the elements of this design (and the underlying code) are, go read the two comments above.
There's a difference between copying something and using the same basic design principles.

I mean, this is something that you'd dream that Scott has as a blog. (Not that I dream about those things though .)
Suuuuure you don't.
There's not much variation in size between the "T"'s within them.
I agree, but in playing with the sizes I found that is was tough to make them any smaller than the smallest one and still be able to easily recognize it. I might play around with them again, but after about 20 minutes of trying out different font faced T's, I got a little tired of it.
All the "T"'s are within a box of the same size. Now, while I think this is good because it heightens the "T"'s within them, I think it would be more visually telling that, by clicking on it, it changes the text size.
I see your point, and it was a consideration of mine, but I went with the same size boxes because I wanted to be able to add more of them for other CSS functions. For example, I was hoping at some point to add controls for alternate color stylesheets and also for text justification (justified or align left). Changing the size of the box would sort of throw off the continuity of the control boxes for those other things.
Also of note is the fact that the font size controls use alternate stylesheets, meaning that any modern browser can switch font sizes without those buttons (click the little style button in Firefox's status bar and you'll see what I mean). This means that non-Javascript users (I don't know why there are still any of them around) can still switch the font sizes if they're using a decent browser.

the only thing i would change is the title area. the green[alien]probe and graphic just doesn't seem to work.

do you have a live version of this design? i would really like to see it live so that i could compare it to the current two finalists. know what i mean?

I love this design more then any of the others. Unfortunately I didn't see yours up in the list of possible entries. That is a fantastic design. I like how you used yeallow as a strong accent color without destracting from the primal green strenth the design draws from. I really like the various shades and tones of gree you used to set off the illusion of detail without destracting from the content. What makes me like this more then any of the others is the strong,,,, sharp and exact use of colors. Just enough to set things off without disrupting the eye away from whats really important. Great job!!! Too bad it wasn't a finalist... It totally desirves to be.

Wow! Too bad you didn't finish it. It would be the best design $jark could get. I hope he will like it so much that he gives you a chance to finish it. I just don't like those 3 T's in header. I don't know why...

blackzer0 [2004-10-04 17:04:28 +0000 UTC]
I wish you had finished a live ersion in time for the contest. This would have been up there with the finalists.
I like the clean and glossy look to it. One of the first things I wondered about was 'where's the main navigation?' its position and size look too much like secondary navigation.... perhaps a more prominent place, like under the header.
The green active tab is also not well fused with the green below it.
Otherwise I like most of it; The text size option is quite thoughtful btw.
The design and layout are great. I hope you'll at least show this to Jark? The toony graphics are nice eye candy, especially the green probe on the top.

i think you did a really good job on this. the only thing i dislike is the navigation at the top. i'd have enclosed it all in white. also it'd be nice to see how two posts would look.
