I'M SORRY FOR BEING MORBID GUYSthis is just what i saw when i saw the finale.
Alicorns live for 1000's of years
the others are normal hard working ponys.
the price of being a princess would be watching her friends age while she stays beautiful
Also this was like a 20 minute doodle sorry for any obvious errors
This is MY opinion. i'm not saying this is Canon.

Well, she is an alicorn, and it appears that alicorns live forever or at least for several millennia .
But i also believe that ponies live longer than humans. Perhaps unicorns due to their magic live longer that earth or pegasi ponies ... pegasi because of their life they are the ones to live the least ... being earth ponies in the middle.
But i think hasbro will never talk about this .. so anyone can believe what they want ... its better to stay in ignorance ... because i would never stop crying if hasbro would say that twilight is inmortal ..

That was exactly my thought about all this whole part of the story. Also it seems that Alicorns live way much more than 1000 years (I don't think that Equestria is a 1k year country).

Actually I think twilight has a normal life span as do other Alicorns that aren't Celestia and Luna(as they are essentially divine entities and thus immortal).

The thing is... normal ponies, too, reach an age of hundreds of years apparently.
According to the show, Granny Smith has to be some hundred years old - and since her favorite cousins are still living, too, which are about the same age, it doesn't seem something too strange as well.
Granny was a filly as Ponyville got founded by the Apple Family, but according to Twilight in Winter Wrap Up, the tradition of cleaning winter without magic in that town is done for hundreds of years - meaning that Granny HAS to be some hundred years old.

Actually, Celestia and Luna live for 1000 years.
Nothing suggests ALL alicorns live that long. I mean, heck, there's only four known at the moment - who's to say there havent been others before?
Of course, I doubt this is something Hasbro will ever answer on - pony mortality is probably not the best thing to bring up in a kid's show.
Still, a good picture nontheless.

You guys are overthinking this too much. Besides, who says Twilight can't perform an age spell to keep her friends around? Think of it like The Simpsons, there's no magic there but they haven't aged a bit!

I hope this either never happens, or the show doesn't last long enough for us to see it. Of course they could go the route other shows have gone, where the characters never age.
