Description OMG, it's SUNSTORM!

This actually started out as a spontaneous idea (hence the not so dynamic pose xP) and suddenly became one of the most complex drawings I've ever made. Thanks to *Reno-chan and all my other friends who helped me to get this done; some parts were a really hard nut to crack!

More love for Sunstorm!!

-> Stamp by *TerraRoth -> [link]

In depht:
It was inspired by 'Open Circuits', an RPG set in a parallel universe of G1. Starscream defeated Megatron an now rules over the great empire that is those of the Transformers. Unfortunately, with the lack of Megatron picking on him, he started to breed out a solid paranoia and his selfishness, arrogance and hidden sorrow are dumped mostly on Sunstorm, his personal advisor.

Seekers are a race of Transformers who were brought into being to build up large flying squadrons. They live in trines that can reach populations up to 30 individuals. Teamwork is especially important in those families, which lead to a socially concentrated psyche in Seekers, at least to their own kind. Starscream, who under Megatrons influence came to think love and friendship are signs of weakness, denies his nature and thus suffers under his own twisted world view. His hysterical fits, his anger and the cruelty with which he rules over his people is constant stress to Sunstorm. Starscream does not get to see his trine anymore, so he (involuntarily) keeps Sunstorm away from his too. He keeps his advisor near like a child keeps a precious toy and he does not see that he projects his sorrow onto Sunstorm and makes him suffer too until one day Sunstorm can't take the loneliness and stress anymore.

The picture seen above figuratively stands for the moment in which Sunstorm snaps and realizes, that he doesn't have to take all the crap and coldheartedness of Starscream. Surprisingly, he doesn't get punished so harshly, because it was this and a row of other incidences that made Starscream realize that he really is a prick to his friends and that he will lose them and his trine if he doesn't change his behavior. Fear makes him sometimes forget about that, but he is trying hard and he might work out his problems one day, maybe even with the 'help' of Megatron who started the unhealthy process in Starscream in the first place, because he - being a member of a totally different race called 'Targetkeepers' - just doesn't have a clue about Seekers.

So, this picture and the scene that inspired it are not sad to me, they're actually pretty damn good because it's the turning point that starts the chain-reaction and the healing process in Sunstorm (and Starscream), so to say. ^^

oh, i see: they don't allow 'sexual content'.
i just checked on the rules.
it's a shame though, i guess there are many more pictures that won't be accepted then :<

southernstingray In reply to SplitTheSky [2010-09-13 00:12:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, the way I see it, nothing is showing in either of those pictures, and the seekers are the most sexually viewed characters in G1, so there will be a lot that club misses out on.

This is wonderful!! I love the story line too. I started a story in an alternate universe but I keep hitting brick walls. This picture was done with great care and I can see that! More power to Sunstorm!! Thanks for the info about Seekers. I didn't know about 'trines'

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SplitTheSky In reply to loaves [2010-06-15 11:28:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh, the trine-thing is something my friend and I came up on our own, it doesn't have a canon background. Although it is widely accepted fanon that Seekers are a more social race and live in groups called 'trines' (the first accepted being Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp). I think the term derives from 'tribe'? It is not canonically stated anywhere that there are races among Transformers in the first place, because it's irrelevant since they are not meant to reproduce the way biological beings would.

To avoid deadends in new stories, it helps a lot to have a good understanding about what you're dealing with, depending on what you want to focus on. You definitely should know what you roughly want to end your story with and most important you should know much about your world and characters, even if your ideas seem unimportant at first. The lose ends start to connect themselves, they really do ;D

Thanks for your comment ^^

Very nice job. The eyes are what do it - after reading your description, it definitely fits. His face just says..."That's it."

You did an excellent job on the shading too. It's hard enough to do it with regular lighting, but the intense light source makes for some dramatic shadows.
