Description ~TNS Ill-Repute (DD-01), Ill-Repute class destroyer~

The Ill-Repute class was the first series of ships built under the newly formed Tridainian alliance. The hulls were originally built for fishing vessels but were repurposed after their adversaries, the Ferrous Empire began fielding cruisers and dreadnoughts. Construction was primarily carried out by the faction Delta Sapphire with the weapons and sensors being developed by Rickenbacker Metals and Olympic-Pearson. They featured radar targeting systems that severely outclassed the manual systems of many of the Ferrous ships. They also used the monstrously powerful yet volatile Raptor Hydrogen turbine, setting a trend of hydrogen fuel that would effect all later ships.

They were first involved in the Battle of Far Reach. The six ships in the class along with 4 recently completed Wakatake Destoyers fought off a Ferrous invasion force of 3 dreadnoughts, 12 cruisers, and 15 transports without suffering any losses. That would change a few months later at the Battle of False Passage with both Disgrace and Menace being suck along with most of the Tridainian fleet. From there, the ships would be continuously upgraded and would see action in almost every battle of the war. Ripper would be sunk during the De Pan Run, and Outcast would be torpedoed by a submarine while in port. Ill-Repute would be the most decorated ship of the entire navy and would spend most of the war as a part of the 4th Battleship Group under the Chinook.

The Ill-Repute class was initially designed with a helipad and hanger built to handle helicopters, but at the time of operation Distant Thunder, no helicopters had actually been designed so the ships were hastily retrofitted with an aircraft catapult and hoist for a single recon aircraft. Problem was, only two aircraft were available for the six ships meaning the refit was mostly worthless, and the catapult was replaced later.

During WW-II, the U.S. Navy actually tried putting a scout plane on Fletcher class destroyers, DD477, the Pringle, was one. It was not a success.
