Description ----------------full view please!--------------

characters- Guy Salvatore, Sickness.
from- my comic, "The God Machine."
media- photoshop.

Finally... after many failed drawings (this was almost one of them,) I have finally gotten Sickness into an image, with Guy. I've done allot of these, and have never been content with any of them. -Sickness lives in Guy's dreams, and she shows up in the first issue... I'd say more, but I'll leave that up in the air, cause i'm evil or something.

Body Nerv
"She hits your body nerv
She hits your body nerv
She hits your body nerv
She hits your body nerv tonight" lyrics (c) And One.

Really it's just a fun song.. and thought i'd name the picture after it.

And finally, a new image eh?

EDIT: Because this image might be hard to get into.. I've come up with a narative. : )

"Silently.. he stands there.. locked in his own dream.. connected with a contemptuous bitch. Looking out to the edges in his mind, as everything floats upwards and is gently repelled by the confinement of this reality. Trapped.. just trapped... with her. No one can hear your thoughts, no one can hear you scream within your own mind. She is consuming. -When, when? He asks.. will i awake?"

I find more bitter than death, the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains.

Other than Ecclesiastes 7:26, the concept also reminds me of the "The Bride of the Wind" painting by Oskar Kokoschka. You executed the concept brilliantly with your own style, good work.

I was unfamiliar with both things you brought up. (I had to look them up to know what you were talking about.)

What i gather, it sounds as if there is a negative context towards women in your "bible-ish" quote. As if women have that "sin-ful" effect on men to tempt them and lead them to sin, which i find insulting. That was not my intention with this piece. This piece deals with my story (not that you need that as a frame of refference), and what it is to have something haunting you in your dreams.

I'm glad you liked it though.

Ah, I was just sharing specific examples that can be applied to the more generic theme of disturbed mentality. Both examples used women just as you did in this piece of artwork, but I make no assumption that this pattern extends itself to all females.

I'm very interested, though, to know why you depict the guy's thoughts being "gently" repelled when it seems (to me) the epitome of his agony? Maybe that's the key piece to why it's haunting instead of a nightmare?

My comment didn't get through. I don't think. If it did. I apologise. I was just saying that I love your artwork! I love your style and I admire how emotional it is. I wish I could do that. I also wanted to say that if your comic is for sale, I would love to buy it!! It sounds so interesting!!!

I wanna read your comics SOOO bad. Are they for sale anywhere? I'd buy them in a heart beat. You are such a talented artist. There is so much emotion in your artwork. It's beautiful. I love the style, I've really never seen anything that is so deep. I just love it love it love it. I'd love to be able to do the artwork you do. I guess my style is more. "Punk Rock" than anything.. Well my real stuff. But anyways.. I'm so glad I found you on DA! I could stare at your work for hours and hours!

The narrative really works with the image... maybe you should write things like that more often to accompany your images? I love the colours, composition and expression

sometimes naratives give away too much.. and i like to hear what people think of teh image without me giving away it's secrets.. course this never works out.. and i'm alone with "thats great" comments.. stuff that makes me want to throw myself off a building.

marylounatic In reply to SpookyChan [2006-07-30 06:25:15 +0000 UTC]

i don't blame you... we need a more involved art community, people willing to actually give the critiques we want >_>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyChan In reply to marylounatic [2006-07-30 06:36:24 +0000 UTC]

i supose thats just human nature. there are some willing to devote.. some who don't understand what it is to recieve a critique.. or those who don't understand that praise is not enough (especially for those who don't need praise anymore, but something more comprehensive and interactive.) I mean for the younger set, praise is great.. children need ecouragement.. as for young adults/adults it's just fluff and easily said crap. Sure, it's nice.. but it's like getting a "i love you" from a complete stranger that just doesn't mean anything to you. It's like "okay.. you said you love me.. but why should i trust your words? are you just saying this cause i look pretty?" No real thinking person gives into surface, banal comments... and thus we can't grow.. but then again people don't understand this concept either... and feel they have to give something in order to give teh person validation. We all like praise.. but it doesn't mean anything til somebody communicates what they're actually thinking.

I know you understand this.. but somehow i felt i needed to vent to a like minded person.. that and teh wine is in me.
*grin*

I certainly do... Especially as every now and then I give some really awesome comments to people, but I very rarely get any constructive sort of comments... But then it would help if I started doing some really good work right about now..

Which reminds me... When I get off the net today I'm going to try and fully clean my room! Clean the clutter from my head!

I really hope you dont get offended by this, but the 1st thing that popped in my head when seeing this was that video...crap what was the name of it...East side or something? It was sung by Moby and Gwen Stefani (long before her solo career) There was one part just before the bridge ended and Gwen was behind him and she ran her tongue across the back of his head. I liked them both at the time and I was like Dude thats awesome! I saw this and I was like Dude! Bad ass!!!

So yes, I like it much!!!! LOL!

Seriously?? OMG that's awesome!!! Oh and sorry about the mix up of the name, it was some side I just forget which one, LOL!

But that's so creepy, I would be getting ready for school and keep MTV (thank the heavens for cable in PR...none of that spanish junk in the morning) and I'd just stop and run o the TV to make sure I didnt miss it, toothbrush in my mouth, combing my hair, LOL!

You're SO right, that scene was hot, LOL!!

Im sorry, he's punked on horribly now (well, mostly my Eminem) but I thought his music was pretty good and he looked particularly hot in that video...And Im sorry but when I saw Gwen do that to him I was like...man when I get a boyfriend I want to do that to him, LOL!!! I mean I can still try it if I REALLY wanted to, but Dee Jay's hair breaks with nothing so I'd be spitting out hair balls all weekend, LMAO!!!

see great minds, like strange odd music videos with hot scenes of licking of bald heads.. lol (i have no idea.. XD ) But yeah, Moby was hot in that video! But i have an odd thing for guys and bald heads.. lol.

I like Moby. His music can wander abit sometimes, but for the most part it's good. And i like teh man himself, he seems to have some neat ideas. (you know after you mentioned "South Side" I put that song on. ; )

ewww... that was something i didn't want to associate with my image... eww..

The come back of the white strands would be the dream plan rejecting anything that's trying to get out of the realm. From tears, to the symbolic strings that bind, and perhaps the idea of lust and as you say "sploodge", but the feeling of regret, and not being able to control the situation are present. Not being able to move, and being stuck in a moment that one can't get out of...

So yeah.. the idea of placing scary movie and this together scares me.. ;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zaliness In reply to SpookyChan [2006-07-27 02:10:01 +0000 UTC]

trapped in a sinister cocoon of sploodge...
it works. its a bit graphic but it works.
lust and sex are often what bind us most, and are part of situations that are often the most difficult to forget.

but your right.
scary movie should never be placed next to art.

it feels like a strange falling images... but backwards...man it's like opposing ideas in my head. Guy seems still yet it's like he isn't moving and everything is around him.. the lines look like there moving away from his body and slowly flaotng up yet there is no movement... ok i can't explain very well oight, probably a mix of the time 9pas midnight) the heat (past what it should be for england BRING ON THE RAIN) and generaly wanting to go to bed but with the heat and day off ive got to much energy

right... sickness doesn't feel like she is there, it's like guy is the only real thing in the image and he's eiter dreaming or it's something he ca't see that slowly eating him up so he lays there helpless as sickness is eating him...

bah that still doesn't feel right

this image is confusing me Chan please forgive me while i go off and become lost in the good book *picks up pocket size "history of art" book and begins to read*
