media- Photoshop and Painter (painter mostly used)

Watched Ken Russel's "The Devils" and "Altered States" the other night. I saw the better first..

"The Devils" ... my! What a movie. My husband wants to own it now after we rented it.. I do too, but it's out of print with a pushed back DVD release and who knows what cut of the film it would be. I think we got to see the super American cut version of it. >_< Which from what I read, we didn't get the juicy cut scenes that would have clued us in moreso to Sister Jeane's further infatuation with Gandier... and other things. But what a visual treat this movie is! Wish I could say the same about "Altered States'' (directed by the same man..) Just.. erm.. "Altered States" was a good Sci-Fi movie.. but not necessarily a 'good' movie. :/ I dunno if that makes any sense since i'm kinda drunk right now... or tipsy.. i dunno. The point of this all is that after watching "The Devils" I wanted to draw a priest of some kind in painter. (I do love a challenge.)

Some side note- I've been depressed out of my mind lately. Seems my family problems only get worse and worse and everybody is a loon.. Can't anybody be rational for the sake of Chan? Guess not. I mean this as my whole family, and not just one member (though it stems from one.) I just can't wait to be rid of all of this. I want happiness damnit. Especially for my 25th birthday. Can't they all give me peace? I've tried my hardest to fix this issues.. and nothing works. What can i say further then this?

Listened to Seabound's new album primarly when working on this, and followed it up with random songs for the finishing.

I don't know what i'm typing anymore...

I'm so fucking tired of everything.

I like the contradiction of imagery in this pice like a sort of pointing a finger at a fith that seems all but backwards now. i don't know how to put this am tired and the sentences arnt constructing themselves how I want them to.

I've not seen either of the movies at all so can only take it as a stand alone image and it's splendid da beauty

crazy yes...and a picture...hells yes

my philosophy is that i've only got (on average) 60 years to make an impact...and since I cant blow up large chunks of the planet to make trippy designs, i will work on a smaller canvas...ie my flesh

great stuff it is

Creeeepy! D: Great job though! Heh, the halo is nice... it adds GREATLY to the eeriness, probably because of the stark contrast.... Actually... the soulless eyes and mouth might be the most creepy part though.
ANYWAY,
Great picture :] AGAIN!!

The look of the priest makes me nervous...

Honestly, beyond that, I wish you the best of luck with the problems. At the very least, you can always vent to me if need be.

Im losing faith in God, so my interpration:

He's being enlightened the more the book melts away.

Ouu I like your interpration. Not what I had in mind, but I like it sooo much better then mine.

Sorry to hear about your losing faith though, never a fun thing when things seem uncertain, ... though enlightenment and life is more relaxing and enjoyable through the eyes of one who can see everything without the aide of mysticism (it's a bit scary too.) (to let you know, I'm a secular humanist. So that's where I stand on any affiliation with these types of topics.)

It's a great piece, and I really love it. Im actually writing a comic revolving around this topic, and this is proving to be extremely inspirational

Ive never felt more certain. I dont know, I just no longer feel that He cares. not for anyone. All this stuff about prayer, the bible/ quran/ torah. all this take of sinning and what not, how we must all praise him and all that jazz. whats the point of it?

I mean, how does it really matter? I rather believe in the goodness of people and their gentle kisses than in God. I have my own belief system and it's basically being good to everyone. We all now whats right and what's wrong. Morality was built on Religion, it's the other way around. At least that's how I see it.

Awww, hang in there Chan, and remember that you're not responsible for other people's problems.

Based on this drawing, I want to see the Devils now.

I saw Altered States in the theater, and it worked better there than on TV. Plus, it doesn't hold up very well over time.

thanks hun. I know i'm not.. but I just can't help but want to save others, especially when I love them so much and would hate it if things end in pure tragedy (which is a big possibility.) This whole situation is stifling. :_:

-The Devils- I forgot to mention how it's a wonderful political movie of the reason's of why church and state should be seprate, not to mention how graphic the imagry is. It has striking contrasts of black vs. white, which works well with the subject matter. Just so lovely, and wonderfully wicked. Ouu and all the characters are totally screwed up, which is so perfect.

You know, Altered States reminds me of a un-funny Woody Allen flick in the form of a Science Fiction movie. Unfortunitly this set up didn't work out too much in favor for this movie, but it's eerily so similar- Long dialogs of self analyzing and philopshical ramblings, one person loving the other un-conditionally but the other isn't in the same kind of romance but is dedicated to something else, and people talking at the same time; very Woody Allen... just the ending doesn't match up with his format. Do you supose who ever wrote 'Altered States' was heavily influnced by Allen? Or do you think it's just a coincdence?

I had not thought about how it was similar to Woody Allen movies, so I can't say.

The movie tried to have a message about the human condition, but it was just an unrelenting assault of the then state of the art special effects that any message was lost despite the subtlety of a sledgehammer dialogue.

During the scene where the scientist reverst to the first human zygote, my friend jumped up and exclaimed, "He's a born again Christian!" which wasn't too far off the mark if you consider the film about a man's ultimate throw down with God. To quote VB, he pissed in God's eye, and He blinked.

Nevertheless, I don't hate the film and prefer it to the empty nothing but special effects and schwarzeneggerism lines of most of today's scifi films.
