Description This is a study of an area of valencia that I did a year or so ago on a University art trip
I really liked it at the time, but almost comletely forgot about it because it was buried in a random skecthbook. I finally got around to scanning it, and editing out the page fold because of my upcoming final show.
Thought I'd stick it up here....

So full of personality! Your cityscapes are my favorite part of Freakangels, too.

I live in Valencia!!!
Do you understand spanish?
Where exacly this place is?

spoonbard In reply to 4MorningBell [2008-06-27 08:34:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah cool! Yeah, I went on a school trip there for a good while. I can't really speak very good Spanish, although I can a little!
I can't remember the name of the place, but it was away from the main town centre and I was drawing from a bench in a small square.

Burisu In reply to spoonbard [2007-08-23 12:24:57 +0000 UTC]

It reminds me of the streets near El Carmen if not going off el corte ingles of Colon if you head far north you see streets like these : D~ But I can't rly put my finger on it, I've only been living here like a year? Ahahaha.

Very nice lines, the coloring just gets better the deeper down the road you go.

What were the original dimensions?

I feel kinda embarassed asking this but where's Valencia? This is a really lovely piece, I like it when people draw buildigns without using rulers, it really lets the picture flow and gives a more whimsical feel. May I ask what sort of pen(s) did you use for this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spoonbard In reply to MissGoldenWeek [2007-03-19 18:47:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! I used Rapidographs (3 different nib sizes)
oh, and Valencia's in Spain ^_^

i love all the details and how the details are concentrated in one area, and fade as the picture proceeds outward! ilove this style, and how its so loosely drawn, without any solid straight dead lines that would make the buildings look dull. love the simple dashes of color too

spoonbard In reply to stream-reflections [2007-03-12 12:46:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Valencia was such an organic looking place, using a ruler would have been so wrong atmosphere wise!

i love all litle details u did put on it and styli whitch u did draw it
? did u use som special pencils to make lineart loock like that or did u do it on som program ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spoonbard In reply to militaryTiger [2007-03-12 12:56:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much!
The linework was dione with pens called 'rapidographs'. They're basically really high quality fineliners that use india ink. I used about 4 different nib sizes for this pic to give the varied line width.
