Anyway, something simple and cute to commemorate Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and our new protagonist, Matthew. It's also a warm-up exercise to get me ready to go on some more interesting projects than what I've been submitting recently.
Isaac's ready to charge ahead, and luckily responsible Felix is here to question his judgment. And Matthew... Matthew's a little nervous. It's his first time. Please be gentle. \shot

Edit: Changed the position of Felix's mouth a bit to better suit his expression, as suggested by ~kd7sov , to make him look a little less sadface and a little more "could you please look at a map instead of picking a random direction and going that way that's how we got into this mess in the first place".

I dunno, I think muteness might be like color-blindness in that it's recessive on the X chromosome. Or it's recessive on the Venus chromosome, or on the Golden-Sun-protagonist chromosome. I'm not sure which.

You know, like... Guys are more likely to be color blind than girls because they only have one X chromosome... Annnd Golden Sun protagonists are more likely to be mute because they're uh... Earth adepts? Or something?

Unfortunately I don't think that's very likely... He's a Golden Sun protagonist before he's Isaac's son, I'm afraid. And if Felix's sudden inability to talk and Isaac's sudden ability to talk A LOT have taught us anything, it's that Golden Sun protagonists have no vocal chords.
Although Felix did let one slip in TLA... More the fault of the translators than anything, though.

Although somehow it didn't catch me nearly as off guard as Isaac's exclamation of "!!" at the end of the first game. Possibly because I like Isaac more than Felix, but yeah.

Hahaha, that's true. I had considered making it "Why?" and decided to use "???" instead for consistency. Although that's putting waaayy too much thought into an imaginary conversation than I should...
It might as well be hereditary, along with pointy hair, a scarf, and a red/yellow/blue color scheme, lol. But hey, maybe if he fails we'll get a fourth game out of it! Or a game over screen... Probably a game over screen.

More seriously, Felix's face could use a bit of work. His eyebrows are saying "How much thought did you put into this decision?", but his mouth is saying "I... don't think I want to go that way." Actually, his mouth looks very much like Matthew's. (Felix has very eloquent body language. It's a side effect of being a silent protagonist.)

It could be worse... He could be wearing a tube top and a skirt, like so many of the other protagonists RPGs are giving us these days.
That's very true, and it puts into words the awkward feeling bordering on dissatisfaction that I had towards Felix's face as I was coloring it... I tried to make Felix's a more "hmmm I don't know about this" frown and Matthew's a more "please can we just go back" frown, but I wasn't able to make it as evident as I would have liked. I worry that giving Felix more of a ):< face will make him either look unnecessarily angry or more like Matthew, though...

It's hard to say for sure, but I think straightening Felix's mouth a little would help. I think of the "how sure are you" expression as being mostly in the eyebrows.
