Description
To say Niki had ran as far from Spirit Mountain as she could manage was almost an understatement .
After a harsh hunger strike brought on by Hyla's departure to another prison , becoming ill and having to travel to the Spiritland's for treatment, Niki wasn't really feeling a hundred and ten percent right now. Yet driven by a feeling of injustice and perhaps a small amount of fever clouded ideas, Niki had legged it as soon as she was able.
It was a once in a life time chance.
She had hated leaving Cali with the bag on this one, she had been the only one that seemed to have an actual interest in reforming the inmates, to help them better their lives, hopefully Niki's stunt wouldn't change her mind...
Yet she still felt so angry at Damisi and that bastard Kheri. This was all their fault. If nothing else, Niki's actions were a nice ,big F- you to the system she was trying to escape.
Quiet frankly, Niki had made a bee line north, wanting to just escape the Spirit Lands and all the officers lurking in its shadows. It had taken a little while to cross the final hurdle in the form of the Spirit land's Northern most river, and when Niki finally arrived on the other bank, she was exhausted. Yet she still had a little ways to go before she was safely out of the border...
Finally, a few days after her initial escape, Niki crossed the border. She was feeling a bit better as her sickness had passed, for the most part, but she was now starving and had had no time to stop and catch a quick morsel of food. Niki seriously considered stopping for the time being to rest... but decided against it. She wanted just one more day between her and her pursuers. Even if she was beyond Shaha's jurisdiction, that didn't mean the officers of Gereza would stop in their chase.
This turned out to be a very poor decision.
The Desert was the quickest and least territorially troubling route to the PrideLands. While it was true some prides called the desert home, very few actually had set borders to make territory. Niki believed it wouldn't take long to cross and that she might be able to lose her trail in the ever shifting sands.
Yet the desert was harder to navigate than previously thought. Everything looked the same... Not to mention the heat began to play tricks on Niki's mind and caused her thoughts to cloud. At one point she had forgotten why she was even in the desert in the first place!
She lasted a day and a half in the confusing, hostile environment, half starved and thirsty, before she had blacked out into the sand. The last thing she saw were the buzzards beginning to circle over head before she lost consciousness.

Yet as it would turn out that these buzzards, usually a sign of death in the desert, would be Niki's saviour.
A pride living nearby caught sight of them. Each exchanging a look of interest.
“Looks like the buzzards found something.” A very elderly and heavily scarred lioness muttered, she turned to what few members she had left and snorted. “Bui-Bui, Kucha! Go see what's going on. Could still be edible.”
Bui- Bui, a young adult, stood and began to make her way out to the where the birds could be seen. Another lioness, heavily scarred as well but in her middle age, followed after her. The two quickly came to the dune just before the birds and began to sneak up and over, not wanting to scare the creature off with their presence... if it could still run of course. As the two crested their heads over to see what it was, they both frowned.
A lioness...
Kucha was the first to begin to speed up once she was sure the stranger was unconscious. She padded to a stop just before Niki's form, sniffing a bit over her body. She snorted slightly.
“Smells sick!” She snarled, looking to Bui-Bui when she caught up. “Could be them damned Nyota's again!! Trying to send an ill lioness into our midst and kill us all instead of fight us, the bastards!”
Bui-Bui bent over and tentatively sniffed Niki as well. “It smells as if she's better now. Most likely was sick not too long ago.”
Kucha set a paw on Niki's still shoulder, giving a brief shake. “She seems dead.” The lioness bent in a bit, watching the exhausted Niki closely. “Nah, wait. She's breathin.” Kucha looked to her pride mate briefly. “Could still be a spy though.”
“Mnyama will want to see and she'll figure out what to do with it.” Bui-Bui sniffed, and caught Kucha's eye. “Shall you carry her back or shall I?”
“Pfft. You couldn't carry a hare on yer back.” Kucha snuffed, ignoring Bui-Bui small glare and hefting Niki onto her shoulders. “Lets go!”

Hey guys!! Spotty-bee here, entering 's Contest!! This kinda conjoins with my current Lion King Story, which is heavily inspired by Koai's comics! It is NOT, understand, NOT necessary to read what little there is of it to understand this entry. Its just a fun little connection that takes place far in the past of my story. As my story's current time line era is closer to when Kat had her son.
Anywho, please enjoy!! If you wish to look at my story, here is a link, but is is not needed to read this, so do as you wish
