Description
They say a warrior never forgets their first battle. For many, this is the case. The memory is a vivid reminder of the live they live and the path they chose. From humans, to dogs, to even the lazy barn cats, it is an important moment captured forever in the mind. For a dragon fighter it is different. Every battle is just as exhilarating as the first; the sights, the smells, it all crashes together and overwhelms the senses. The thrill of the fight fills the mind until even a veteran dances with excitement. For them it is not something that is chosen, it is something unconscious. It is their all.

The deed was done. The two stallions were gone. The man sat back in his chair and sighed. His hair stood up on its ends, either from sleeping on the floor or running his hands through it once too often. Streaks of grey showed through at odd points. The captain was tired.
Two warhorses, two dragon hunters, now civilians. They were not pets, not cuddly or cute. The stallions were trained to fight and hunt. It is what they'd always done. Now they were done.
The captain pushed back his chair. His boys were gone. There was no need for dragon hunters and a great need for money. The queen had called for horses and by gods he would answer. Standing up, he looked over at the entrance to his tent. Out there slept his men and their horses. No one new what he had done. He would have to tell them soon.
---
Prime stood alone. By nature he was a loner, a drifter. There was little wind in the early morning, but a small breeze played with strands of his hair. A small smile tugged the corners of his mouth. His life was over; dragon hunting was his life and now it was gone. What could possibly await a battle-ready hunter amid a herd of civilians? He'd herd the news earlier. The grooms has been whispering to one another about the departed of the two young stallions. Prime and Vis, brother at arm and brothers at birth. None of the horses worked closer or stuck together quite like those two had. They were even sold together.
Life was about to change. For better or worse, he must adapt. His hair would be cut, something he'd never had done before. He smiled again. His life had not ended, no it had begun. For the first time in his life he would live as a horse. Prime would no longer be the war horse in her Majesty's army, the Dark Dragon. Now he would be a horse. He would explore. He would make friends. He would eat all the apples he could find. These were all things he'd wanted and never dreamed he could.
The stallion turned again. Where would he be? Would there be forests? Mountains? Plains or deserts? Would the grass be as sweet as the grass here? So confusing, yet so fun. He grinned to himself and headed back towards camp.
----
Wow, look how confusing that was to read. To sum it up, Prime used to be a dragon hunting horse and got sold to be an import. At first he was not about that (it would probs be boring or something like that), but then he realized that he could eat all the apples he wanted and that it was a great idea.
Entry for Nordanner's Monthly Theme: January 2014 featuring SFR's Fury of the Primordial Dragon 1094 . I had this sketched and thought it would be fun trying to paint. I was horribly wrong.
Fun Facts
- The horse he was sold with is Visayan 1091 . They're the bests of buds.
- Prime's mane is super weird. Unlike most dragon hunters, Prime rode with a full mane and tail. His hair grew too thick to be managed as easily as other horses. Vis' could be cut with a sharp knife and a few strokes. Prime's took hours of careful trimming or it simply began to fall out. When he got to SFR Rain started using a special shampoo to help keep it from breaking. The reason his mane is cut in a Nordie cut now is because his pissed Eti off one time and got a chuck of hair taken off as a result.
-Prime was known as the Dark Dragon or sometimes just the Dragon. Prime was a nickname taken since he was "in his prime". This was all written on his import sheet so when Cece got him she based his name off of that.
-Prime is also a pretty solid dragon hunter. He might just eat tons of apples now, but if someone was to put a rider on him and give him a dragon boy would be set.
