Description This is two of WizzyWolf 's pets, based on a photo she was kind enough to give me some years ago. It's only tiny (A6) so what you see in full view here is about the actual size of theΒ drawing.
It probably took almost as long to get a nice photograph of this drawing to post as it did to draw the thing. Too much dark pencil shading means a lot of shine, and the paper wasn't of the best quality and became slightly distorted with the heavier shading, meaning half the photos or the scan picked up on that more than the pencil shading. Still, as seen above I got there eventually!

Seems like I'm finally bringing my dA gallery back round to being a graphite animal art gallery which is what I'd say is my main focus - although you'd possibly not think that to look through it!

I'm really impressed by the wholeness of the picture. First of all I like the composition: the cat and dog look very properly positioned in the drawing area. And then the basic proportion and pose, plus the whole coloring technique. It's quite rare to find artists being able to draw animals perfectly realistic like this almost undistinguishable from a photo, given all the technique and the very smooth background.

It's hard to find a vault in this drawing, you seem to have drawn everything on the right places. I'd love to 'look for mistakes' on the dog's overly dominant black part of the head (at first glance) but nope. You've managed to give the hair strands details after all. I wonder though if the cat could use just a bit of space for its body on the left so there's more sense of 'equality' instead of 'dominating dog'. Overall I'd say you've done a perfect job, keep it up.~

Aww, thank you for the kind and detailed comment. That black part of the dog's head was so frustrating! I drew it and was really proud of it, but as soon as the light changed at all it vanished in the glare of the reflection! I probably spent almost as long scanning it to get that back to how the original looked as I did drawing it.

You're probably right about the cat's body. Just another tiny bit wider and it would lose that slightly edgy feel the current crop gives it. Something to consider for next time, I guess. Thanks again!

Yup! They are a friend's pets, back when the dog was pretty new to the house. The cat was usually so shy as well, so that made it super cute!

The wet noses touching... very, very cute indeed!

A dog's consciousness is very different from ours, I read. Their experiences are based much more on smell, because their noses are much more powerful than ours. That's why, when you see a person walking a dog, the dog is always continually sniffing its surroundings.

It saddens me that all the cat will ever say is "miauw," and that all the dog will ever say is "woof." It's just not fair, for them.
Maybe someday - one may hope! - some brilliant scientist - or why not a whole flippin' team of them working together - will create a "translingual"/transcerebral device that will finally allow for interspecies communication. To simply read thoughts and emotions directly from the brain, tap into someone's brain waves. I've seen it in sci-fi movies, it doesn't seem that hard, even to me; they've gotten so so far as to let a paralyzed man operate a computer with his thoughts alone, there's no telling what technological wonders the future holds. Only time will tell.Β

Aww thanks!

I gave up recording drawing times a long time ago - I'm terrible at sitting down and just drawing for any extended period so it's all drawn in odd gaps here and there between doing other things! I'd guess based on the other drawings I did when I used to time them that it was around the 15 hour mark.

15 hours, That sounds about right.

I tend to get pretty sucked into my drawing, when I finally get around to doing it.

No more than that I've got about twenty projects on the go and keep switching between them resulting in making near zero progress on each! Working on clearing that list down now though so I should hopefully have something finished by the end of the weekend!
