Thanks pal-- my first love was Kohinoor's Rapidograph technical fountain pens, and I can't go very long without filling one up and using it again!

yuss, there is something almost romantic about finding a really good pen. I wonder. I have fairly poor vision so I wonder if I compensate with the other senses.Β  But then, I think NAH, because when I DO see something amazing I am equally awestricken. Awestruck. ROFL. Sam,Β I have a degree in English. NOW WHAT. I guess the latter would be the past tense upon further review aka a drink of Pepsi.

Amazing. Very powerful. I'm completely impressed with your pen & ink skills. Pen & ink is so unforgiving.

Rapidiographs are the best of the best. The ORIGINAL pen sets.

Thank you! Yeah, I still do love the rapidographs-- I'm actually working on pages of a comic strip right now using a rapidograph, just like when I was 17!

LOL @ "just when I was 17". You just dated us both. Same here, I was in 7th heaven when they first came out back then. The detail!!!

Lookin forward to seeing the comic strip.

Yeah, I think the hardest part now is settling on an ink-- I don't like ANY of the current inks available on the market as much as I liked the formula for FW ink in about 1978-- FW ink is still around, but it's not that same ink...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LynnDeBeal In reply to SRaffa [2010-01-20 13:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you would think the quality of inks would raise with the quality of pens. Would grow with them. Thats a drag.

SRaffa In reply to LynnDeBeal [2010-01-20 17:47:19 +0000 UTC]

I agree-- as far as I can tell, the changes were made for environmental conservation purposes-- I mean, they really did used to get ink from squids, but I don't think that's the case anymore-- I think what we call "India ink" these days is all one kind of acrylic or another...

The hair, oh my gosh the hair....urm..fur? lol

The painstaking detail on this is fabulous. I remember once as a child trying to draw an ocean with lots of little lines with a blue ink pen, it looked great until the pen dried up and I couldn't find another pen that was the same tone and half the sea was a different blue from the other half. Ha ha ha...so I vowed never to that again. I guess there is something to be learnt from this ink work....ie...black and white is best.

Animals are beautiful already and when someone reproduces them so well then it makes it doubly enjoyable. Gorillas are also our closest relative and we can definitely see the intelligence in the these eyes you have drawn.

Another thing that I find incredible is how uniform the lines are, it's takes great skill to create depth and volume like this. It's dark where it needs to be and vice versa...and then being able do the gradients with no variations or blotches. It's like I say, Skill with a capital S!

Thanks, Chris! Not so bad for time-- I'm thinking it took a couple of weeks; the stuff I do lately takes MONTHS... I miss pen & ink; maybe I'll get to do some more of that this year. Thanks very much for looking!

Chris-Supernerd In reply to SRaffa [2005-11-26 03:38:59 +0000 UTC]

oh damn, months O.o I cannot last that long on a pic, I'm always with this mindset: "get this done so you can see the fruits of your work" etc.

Thats detication, keep up the great works and your patience on it. It SHOWS in this gorilla pic, fuck, it shows in your entire gallery

SRaffa In reply to Chris-Supernerd [2005-11-26 04:05:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Chris!
There's a lot to be said for that white-hot spontaneity, too, though, and especially with the visual language of comics-- something you're very fluent in.
(I'm also nuts about the Teen Titans TV show, and sorry to hear about its imminent demise-- Starfire owns me...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chris-Supernerd In reply to SRaffa [2005-11-26 08:45:36 +0000 UTC]

mmm yeah...Starfire I'm surprised at WB, cancelling a show that has ranked 2nd greatest animation series in 2004-2005.
I looove directing and expressions, trying to capture an essence of a character, even if its not an original one. I will friend you back btw, I have ALOT to learn from your gallery (since you use a shitload of mediums)
...The gorrilla still kicks my ass. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SRaffa In reply to Chris-Supernerd [2005-11-26 20:14:06 +0000 UTC]

I also think that, even with X Men 2, Spiderman 2, and maybe a couple of others doing right as motion pictures, I've never seen any other medium capture the authentic comic book experience as well as the TT cartoon does; that sense of HUGE peril, the continuity of storylines and character development-- I've never seen anything to equal it, outside of the comics themselves.
Glad you like the Gorilla, Chris; put it in your Wishlist, and I'll have it right out to ya...
