There are few things scarier than staring down the barrel of a huge shotgun.

This weapon was designed by Erebus operatives, for Erebus operatives. It's a pump-action weapon that uses large, custom-built shells. The recoil experienced by firing these shells is quite hefty, and shock absorbers are built in to prevent shattered arms. Despite this, heavy bruising is still quite common.

Like most other Erebus-designed weapons, their heavy shotgun favors raw power over all else. Its pellet spread is quite wide, a fact that has led to the removal of more standard iron sights in favor of a simpler gutter-snipe sight.

It is essentially just a shotgun deviant of an anti-materiel rifle. It boasts far better close-quarters prowess and is far more versatile thanks to its smooth-bore barrel and pump action.
Aside from the large shells it's designed to use, it is capable of firing a wide variety of ammo, including non-lethal projectiles or even grenades.

The term "heavy shotgun" doesn't actually refer to the weapon's weight, but rather the shells fired.
Its custom-built, 8ga shotshells carry six pellets each. They're quite large and have a lot of weight, but they fly fast and hit incredibly hard.

Ingame the Erebus Heavy Shotgun is the second-last shotgun unlocked. Shot-for-shot, it's the strongest weapon in the game. This is somewhat made up for by its anemic range, large spread, and slow rate of fire, making it only effective at close range.
