History:

Autumnkit was born to Sweetsap (the medicine cat) and Weevilstorm in the middle of Leaf-fall, her pelt the same shade as the falling leaves, earning her her name. She was rambunctious and always wanting to play, noted as the reckless kit. Perhaps that matched her very conception, for her parents never planned on having a litter in the first place! Despite this, the couple adored their new children, especially Sweetsap who spent a great deal of his time helping raise Autumnkit. And she was a pawful too... The little kit would constantly explore and try to get out of the nursery. Once she trotted right out of camp to only be carried back by the scruff by one of the guards. This fire never truly extinguished, even into apprenticehood.

Autumnpaw wasn't a very good listener, and it took Applefall all her strength to not get too frustrated with the wily kit. Autumnpaw was just to excited to finally explore her home and she often begged Applefall to go on patrols. She felt so powerful when she was with the other warriors, and she looked up to them immensely. Finally Applefall got it into her head that she would need to get serious if she ever hoped to even become a warrior one day. She committed herself to memorizing their land, becoming a true wayfinder of the forest. But she was still a troublemaker... One leaf-bare she wandered out too far on the ice and Applefall, quite bravely, came to her rescue. She was shivering with a snotty nose but it was exhilarating!! Applefall was less than impressed. She could have died had the ice cracked!! Autumnpaw felt guilty for putting her mentor in danger and after that quietly trained until she earned her warrior name.

Finally the day came and Autumnpaw grew to Autumnwind, named for her free flowing spirit. She took it as quite the compliment and wore her name with pride. But still a young warrior, she made many mistakes, often trying to run ahead and lead patrols. She would always go a little too far... whether she climbed the mountain too high or ventured too far from camp. She tested the limits, wanting to match the world against her own strength and knowledge. The leader at the time, Stagstar, decided she might learn something about responsibility if given an apprentice. She had much to teach and maybe if she calmed down enough she would be an excellent mentor. This was partially true, for Nightpaw, her new apprentice, was just as fiery as she was! The two would gallop through the snow, goofing off when they were done training, creeping up on deer they could never hope to hunt, and getting a little too close for comfort to the two-leg camps. They were fast friends and Nightpaw became something of a daughter to Autumnwind. However, she sobered up one dark leaf-bare day, when Nightpaw was creeping out onto the ice like she did as an apprentice so many moons ago. Autumnwind realized the danger she was in and called to her, trying to carefully inch her way over to the smaller lighter cat. It was terrifying, the sound of the ice shifting under their paws as she finally reached her apprentice, pulling her by the scruff to the safety of land. They were almost there when the ice finally broke, one of Autumnwind's paws falling through, losing her balance as her entire rump fell in. She clawed at the ice, trying to find footing, but was slipping, falling deeper into the water. It was so cold it burned, and she tried to push Nightpaw ahead, using her quickly sapping strength to get her to shore. But boy, was she lucky. A patrol was close enough to hear her yowl of pain and Nightpaw's terrified cries and came to both their aid, pulling them from the water. Shivering with true cold they were both rushed to the medicine cat, Autumnwind's father.

After that close encounter Autumnwind was much more mindful, wanting to teach Nightpaw not only how to have fun but how to survive. She didn't want the young thing to grow up recklessly, but gracefully, into a true warrior. It was one of the proudest days of her life when Nightpaw finally became a warrior, named Nighthowl for her loud upbeat personality. The coming moons were peaceful until Stagstar suddenly collapsed in the middle of camp, stunning everyone. Sweetsap worked on him swiftly but it was discovered he was dying, holding onto his last life. He had unknowingly been fighting a horrific parasite, slowly draining him of his lives until he was what he was now. Autumnwind visited the old tom to pay her respects, tearing up as she realized this was the last time she would say goodbye. Stagstar had been leader since she was a kit and to see him so weak and know he wasn't long for this world chilled her. She didn't want to accept this change, Stagstar's steady smile always in her memory. The clan mourned and the deputy, Volefur, was called to receive her nine lives upon MoonPeak. There she traveled with Sweetsap, the clan waiting with baited anxiety. When Volestar returned she leapt onto the great rock, calling everyone to her triumphantly. Volestar was always the loud one, and her voice echoed through the trees, now was the time to name the deputy. Autumnwind was so lost in her mourning she almost didn't recognize her name being called. She looked up with confusion and Volestar simply smirked, a sad chuckle as she asked again if Autumnwind would accept the role as deputy.

The next few moons were a wild blur. Autumnwind, thrust with new responsibilities, was working hard to organize patrols and keep up with the energetic and somewhat needy Volestar. She was an excellent leader, commanding the attention of her peers, somewhat of a show maker, but behind the scenes she was as disorganized as Autumnwind! They worked together and became quick friends, like giggling sisters who had an entire clan in their paws. It was... tiring, and Autumnwind often worried if she was doing enough for the clan. Every casualty was a blow to her heart and she'd blame herself. Should a cat get stuck in a trap, attacked by a bear, shot by a hunter... no matter the situation, Autumnwind took every loss personally, heart heavy as she watched StarClan, praying for strength. Things didn't get easier, for as new-leaf came about, normally a time of prosperous prey, Volestar started to show signs of illness. She was coughing horribly and eventually was nest-ridden, Sweetsap watching over her night and day. Autumnwind was terrified at how quickly the disease ate at her and was even there to witness Volestar lose her first life. But that wasn't the last, the illness took many others until it faded, spreading to other clanmates and killing them as well. Volestar was mortified, she felt as if she had brought this plague upon her people, despite Autumnwind's constant reassurances. Afterwards Volestar was nothing more than a glimmer of her former light. She was tired, worn eyes slowly leading each day. She often spent days at a time in her den, strength sapping as Autumnwind tried to bring her prey. In the meantime Autumnwind lead the clan best she could.

During this time Autumnwind became exceptionally close with another molly named Shivertooth, a gentle soul who helped her vent her frustrations. For a time Autumnwind thought she might be in love with Shivertooth and the other reciprocated. With her, for the first time in a while, Autumnwind felt secure. But the relationship was short lived. Shivertooth admitted that the bond they shared was becoming a strain on her... Autumnwind asked for a lot, and Shivertooth simply couldn't keep up. She wanted to love and support the deputy, but with the horrible plague among them it was becoming too much, she felt she could break! Autumnwind felt horrible for how she relied on Shivertooth, but couldn't admit the secret bitterness she felt at being left behind. The two were still wonderful friends but a quiet tension held them from ever rekindling the love. Autumnwind often regrets her actions, feeling her own anxiety made her foolishly needy. But Shivertooth never blamed her, the current events were difficult on the entire clan.

One night in leaf-bare Autumnwind came to talk to Volestar, to try to encourage her out to interact with the clan. They missed her, they needed her, but when she went to her den it was empty. Following her tracks in the snow Autumnwind could only feel dread in her chest, tightening as she noticed each step was more unbalanced. Finally, she found Volestar's quiet body, dusted with snow and laying under a tall pine. Autumnwind sobbed, trying to nudger her awake, but she was gone. No one could figure out what took her, perhaps another parasite like Stagstar? Perhaps her own sadness ate her up? Whatever the reason Autumnwind mourned bitterly and with fearful realization readied herself for the journey up the mountain... it was her turn to receive her nine lives.

She traveled with her father, carefully picking their way across boulders and under thin pines, until they met the sleek snow of the peak. Up here, above the clouds, she could see every star and her green eyes filled with them, dizzy with the sight. She curled up, as per the medicine cat's instructions, and drifted to sleep, the calm coming more easily than she realized despite the cold winds. She was in a dark place, stagnant until a starry figure appeared, their toothy maw smiling with joy. They explained they were Aspenroot, the elder who saw the start of AspenClan and asked Autumnwind to follow her. The deputy was amazed but agreed until they were in a vast starry cave, littered with holes holding the eyes of cats she didn't recognize. Aspenroot turned to her and touched her nose to her head, sending a jolt of pain through her. "With this I grant you loyalty. May your bonds always stay rooted to each other, may the clan be your family, to be yours to watch over and protect." She was given her first life, and as Aspenroot stepped away other cats took her place, filling Autumnwind with new energy. It was exhilarating but cemented Autumnwind, now Autumnstar, into her new role.

When she returned, she was filled with a new passion, rejuvenated to bring AspenClan into a new fruitful age! She was young and still inexperienced, but she wanted to do her best! She selected --- as her new deputy, confident she had made the right choice.
