Awesome... It seems like your doing the right things to improve.  Just time will be the main obstacle!!!
Something I will suggest is adding hints of color here and there.  For example making a new layer that is an overlay, and with a soft brush tap some red on her nose and cheeks.  It will liven her up a bit!
