Due to complications at birth, Kanarei was born without her right arm. Her teen mom gave her to an orphanage after that. She grew up a sickly child with limited social interactions and was home schooled by the women that ran the orphanage. At the age of 8, she's adopted by a wealthy family that lives in the district of Tara. They buy her a bionic arm soon after adopting her. In 5th grade, age 10, due to bullying, her brothers would buy her a Black Panther AllMate which would be dubbed, Koken.

At the age of 13, she joined Rhyme, not for fun, but for revenge. Her older brother, Shinobu, had been hospitalized at the time because he had won a Rhyme battle and was physically harmed after it was over. 4 years later, even after he'd been released from the hospital 3 years prior, she still holds the grudge. Since joining Rhyme, she has gained some confidence in her abilities and has made some friends since then.

The couple had two sons, 6 (Hideaki) and 1 (Shinobu) years older than her. Although she got along with her eldest brother, she and Shinobu had a rocky start. A few days after Kanarei was adopted, her new parents invested in a bionic arm that allowed her the ability to control her ‘fingers’ as the arm’s control system had been surgically implanted into her nervous system. Though, she’d often cover it up by wearing long sleeved shirts and gloves, or a full arm glove.

Being the socially awkward, easy target she is, Kanarei had a tendency to be picked on. There weren't any blatant attacks and she never spoke up about it. It was only in 5th grade that her brothers found out that she was being picked on since Hideaki was in Junior High and Shinobu, who was a grade ahead, didn't want to hang out with her during school because it was uncool. With their allowances and their parent's help, they would buy her an AllMate for her 10th birthday.

That was how Koken came about.

The bullying stopped pretty quickly seeing as this frail little girl had a black panther escorting her to and from school. Granted, it would never have physically hurt them, but no one wanted to risk it.

At Kangaku Jr. High, aged 12, she was able to make 'friends', though it turned out that they were simply using her for her money. She did know that was what they were doing, but said nothing about it. Unsurprisingly, it would be Shinobu who would chase away those 'friends'. This would cause the boy to begin his begrudging friendship with his adopted sister.

Kanarei's parents would make her try out for plays and pay for acting classes, hoping that their daughter would become more animated and less insecure. They also started voice lessons as well as piano lessons.

[ T E E N S | Rhyme ]

She'd known about the world of Rhyme since she was a child, but had never been interested in it. Both her brothers were avid battlers, Shinobu more so than Hideaki who was now attending college. She was more of a bystander who cheered them on.

That changed, however, at the age of 13. Shinobu, who had defeated a university student in a secret Rhyme Battle, was dragged into a five-on-one fist fight that would leave him hospitalized for several months. He would phase in and out of consciousness for the first few months he was in the hospital and would be held back a grade, forcing him to repeat his third year of Junior High with Kanarei.

When Kanarei found out what happened, her unforgiving nature surfaced for the first time.

With the intent of destroying the team that hurt her brother, she would take up Rhyme despite the warnings of the rest of her family. Even Shinobu, once he was conscious, did not want her becoming a Rhymer. This was the only time she would go against her family's wishes.

Kanarei would be self taught for the beginning stages of her Rhyme career, sucking a lot in the beginning. But as she begun winning, she began to gain some confidence in her abilities as well as some friends who were also interested in Rhyme. Said friends would help her improve her skills along the way. She isn't aiming to be the best, just better so she can take down the people that had hurt Shinobu. Although Shinobu had been released from the hospital 3 years before the current time, she still holds the grudge.She's enrolled at  Kangaku High School and works a part time job as a singer/waitress at a club. After work, she battles. Although she isn't a fantastic battler, she is a above average, having been an active Rhymer for five years.

Shinobu came along five years later, about a year after Ryouichi had started up his own dentistry. Due to complications after their second son’s birth, Kaede couldn’t have any more children. But she’d always wanted a girl. Then, they found Kanarei. As the children were growing up, both parents continued to work. Only, Kaede opted for less hours and stayed home more. Only when Kanarei turned 16 did Kaede return to working full time. Kanarei greatly respects her parents and loves them dearly. Though, she has a tendency to treat her father more like a friend than anything else since he always spoils her. Her father's the calm one in the relationship while her mother's fiery nature reflects in her son, Shinobu. Though, her husband can calm her down in 0.00000001 seconds just by smiling at her. Hideaki follows after his father much more than his mother, but does take up some of her traits as well. Although both don't have time for Rhyme anymore, they do have AllMates. Kaede's AllMate is a bird of paradise by the name of Aiko while her husband's AllMate is a colocolo by the name of Takeshi.

Kanarei's adoptive brother who is six years her elder. He’s currently working for his master's degree in medicine and has a part time job as a waiter. All throughout his life he was known as a genius, having skipped a few grades, which would cause him to overshadow his younger brother. The two did not get along very well and at times, seemed like strangers. When Kanarei first came into the family, she became the glue that brought the two brothers together. Hideaki and Kanarei are very close and he constantly showers her with gifts. He’s the one she would always go to every time she’d get into a fight with Shinobu. He has a calm nature and is rarely angry. He's currently dating his childhood friend, Kimiko, who Kanarei begrudgingly approves of. Although his time is limited, he does enter Rhyme battles on occasion with his female ocelot AllMate, Minako.
★ Tanaka, Shinobu 多仲忍 (19, Adoptive Brother) || "Shin-chan"

Kanarei’s adoptive brother who is one year her elder. He was held back a year in middle school (14) after being hospitalized from a fight. Now, he's taking his 3rd year at Kangaku HS with Kanarei while working as a freelance artist. When Kanarei first came into the family, he did not like her. Or rather, he had(has) a crush on her and chose to be a jerk to her. He's the only person Kanarei will get (somewhat) angry at because he just knows how to push her buttons. Unbeknownst to her, he does it so that she has an outlet to express herself. He's extremely protective of her and was the one to suggest buying her an AllMate to take care of her when he wasn't around (ironic since Koken doesn't like him at all). Because of her pushover personality, he would be the one to step in and protect her, often times getting into fights. While she does stop him from getting into fights that don't concern her, she's unable to stop him from attacking those that pick on her. He's much smarter than he lets on, but because he'd given up trying to compete with his brother, chooses to get below average grades. He spends most of his free time drawing or in rhyme battles with his male raven AllMate, Kuro.
★ Kōken 後見 (AllMate) || "Ko-kun"
They've been together for eight years now and are extremely close. Since Hideaki lives away from home, Koken is the main source of comfort and protector. He's the only one she'll be truly honest to about her feelings and frustrations. He'll be the one to memorize her schedule to remind her of what she needs to do and make sure she's on time for school and the like. He'll also be the one to give her a pep talk before a Rhyme battle to make sure she doesn't throw the match or choke. Although he acts reserved around her in public, he is rather affectionate when they're alone or in the company of family. He loves a good scratch and belly rub from Kanarei (sometimes from Kaede and Hideaki as well). Koken respects everyone in the Tanaka household with the exception of Shinobu who he thinks is a pest. Those two will fight constantly, and Koken will often curl up against Kanarei to taunt the other.

Kanarei's legs had buckled beneath her at Shinobu's bedside. Her slender fingers curled against the flimsy white sheets that the unconscious figure slept on. His head was bound with white gauze, a patch covered an eye, a cast on his left leg, and miscellaneous bruising and stitches covered in more gauze. It hurt to even look at him. Yet she continued to stare. Her eyes hollowed in horror at the sight. Features, paling into a sickly greenish hue as her vision blurred.

'I. Will. Kill. Them.'

The voice at the back of her mind repeated. Louder. Stronger. Angrier. Shock and horror morphed into an emotion foreign to the naturally submissive child. Hate. A burning hatred that seared into her bones. A hate that caused the rolling tears to carve its memory into her soul as they cascaded down her cheeks.

"I didn't think hate was in my vocabulary... they've proven me wrong."Disclaimer: She doesn't actually kill anyone cause that's illegal, but she really wants to though. This is basically what gets her into Rhyme, so it's a pretty important piece of her history. You probably won't ever see this side of her. Unless you become someone who's really important to her and get hurt.

[ L I T | Just a Normal Day ] There were books everywhere. Staggered on desks and chairs, stacked on racks, and flowing over the edge of a king sized bed. Sprawled amongst the plush and paper was a brunette with her nose buried deep in a book titled, '99 Psychopaths'. All that could be heard was the ticking of a diminutive grandfather clock and the occasional shifting of her AllMate, Koken. That was, until the door was shoved open with a bang. Kanarei screeched something along the lines of 'please don't kill me with that axe' before realizing that it was none other than Shinobu and Hideaki who were both now, laughing. Hideaki kept a hand over his mouth to be polite but Shinobu roared, clutching his gut.

"Th-that was not funny!" She exclaimed, flustered, as she slammed the book shut.

"S-sorry Kana-chan, we were just--"
"You should have- Aha- seen your- haha- face!" Shinobu cut off his elder brother, trying to contain his laughter to speak, only to fail.

In response, the girl hid her face in her book, embarrassed. "Y-you guys are terrible!"

Hideaki pushed past Shinobu, maneuvered past stacks of books before reaching his sister. In a soft, kind voice, he began "Sorry about that Kana-chan," and began to pat her head endearingly, "but Shinobu and I were just trying to call you down for dinner. Will you join us?"

The girl peeked up at him for a moment before nodding twice.

Koken was the first to get off the bed and head towards the door. Just as he brushed past Shinobu, a loud 'whack' sounded followed by a yelp from Shinobu, having been swatted in the bottom by Koken's tail.

Kanarei let out a light laugh.

Of course Koken would do that. He is, after all, her guardian.Note: She really likes books and she's easily scared by loud noises.

That was how Koken came about.

The bullying stopped pretty quickly seeing as this frail little girl had a black panther escorting her to and from school. Granted, it would never have physically hurt them, but no one wanted to risk it.

At Kangaku Jr. High, aged 12, she was able to make 'friends', though it turned out that they were simply using her for her money. She did know that was what they were doing, but said nothing about it. Unsurprisingly, it would be Shinobu who would chase away those 'friends'. This would cause the boy to begin his begrudging friendship with his adopted sister.

Kanarei's parents would make her try out for plays and pay for acting classes, hoping that their daughter would become more animated and less insecure. They also started voice lessons as well as piano lessons.

[ T E E N S | Rhyme ]

She'd known about the world of Rhyme since she was a child, but had never been interested in it. Both her brothers were avid battlers, Shinobu more so than Hideaki who was now attending college. She was more of a bystander who cheered them on.

That changed, however, at the age of 13. Shinobu, who had defeated a university student in a secret Rhyme Battle, was dragged into a five-on-one fist fight that would leave him hospitalized for several months. He would phase in and out of consciousness for the first few months he was in the hospital and would be held back a grade, forcing him to repeat his third year of Junior High with Kanarei.

When Kanarei found out what happened, her unforgiving nature surfaced for the first time.

With the intent of destroying the team that hurt her brother, she would take up Rhyme despite the warnings of the rest of her family. Even Shinobu, once he was conscious, did not want her becoming a Rhymer. This was the only time she would go against her family's wishes.

Kanarei would be self taught for the beginning stages of her Rhyme career, sucking a lot in the beginning. But as she begun winning, she began to gain some confidence in her abilities as well as some friends who were also interested in Rhyme. Said friends would help her improve her skills along the way. She isn't aiming to be the best, just better so she can take down the people that had hurt Shinobu. Although Shinobu had been released from the hospital 3 years before the current time, she still holds the grudge.She's enrolled at  Kangaku High School and works a part time job as a singer/waitress at a club. After work, she battles. Although she isn't a fantastic battler, she is a above average, having been an active Rhymer for five years.

She'll travel to Kyuujuuminku once a week to visit the women who took care of her at the orphanage.
Her family only uses avian or feline AllMates.
Has a tendency to forget to drink water, so she sets up timers on her phone.
She can't swim, just sink.
Water is the enemy.

★ Tanaka, Kaede 多仲楓 (Adoptive Mother) and Tanaka, Ryouichi 多仲良一 (Adoptive Father) || "okaa-san"/"mom", "otou-san"/"dad"
Kanarei's adoptive parents. These two met in college studying medicine. Kaede came from an extremely poor family and was only able to get through school because of scholarships. Her husband was from the lower middle class. She became a surgeon while he became a dentist. The two married after a year of dating and later had their first child, Hideaki. Shinobu came along five years later, about a year after Ryouichi had started up his own dentistry. Due to complications after their second son’s birth, Kaede couldn’t have any more children. But she’d always wanted a girl. Then, they found Kanarei. As the children were growing up, both parents continued to work. Only, Kaede opted for less hours and stayed home more. Only when Kanarei turned 16 did Kaede return to working full time. Kanarei greatly respects her parents and loves them dearly. Though, she has a tendency to treat her father more like a friend than anything else since he always spoils her. Her father's the calm one in the relationship while her mother's fiery nature reflects in her son, Shinobu. Though, her husband can calm her down in 0.00000001 seconds just by smiling at her. Hideaki follows after his father much more than his mother, but does take up some of her traits as well. Although both don't have time for Rhyme anymore, they do have AllMates. Kaede's AllMate is a bird of paradise by the name of Aiko while her husband's AllMate is a colocolo by the name of Takeshi.
★ Tanaka, Hideaki 多仲英明(24, Adoptive Brother) || "Aki-kun"
Kanarei's adoptive brother who is six years her elder. He’s currently working for his master's degree in medicine and has a part time job as a waiter. All throughout his life he was known as a genius, having skipped a few grades, which would cause him to overshadow his younger brother. The two did not get along very well and at times, seemed like strangers. When Kanarei first came into the family, she became the glue that brought the two brothers together. Hideaki and Kanarei are very close and he constantly showers her with gifts. He’s the one she would always go to every time she’d get into a fight with Shinobu. He has a calm nature and is rarely angry. He's currently dating his childhood friend, Kimiko, who Kanarei begrudgingly approves of. Although his time is limited, he does enter Rhyme battles on occasion with his female ocelot AllMate, Minako.
★ Tanaka, Shinobu 多仲忍 (19, Adoptive Brother) || "Shin-chan"

Kanarei’s adoptive brother who is one year her elder. He was held back a year in middle school (14) after being hospitalized from a fight. Now, he's taking his 3rd year at Kangaku HS with Kanarei while working as a freelance artist. When Kanarei first came into the family, he did not like her. Or rather, he had(has) a crush on her and chose to be a jerk to her. He's the only person Kanarei will get (somewhat) angry at because he just knows how to push her buttons. Unbeknownst to her, he does it so that she has an outlet to express herself. He's extremely protective of her and was the one to suggest buying her an AllMate to take care of her when he wasn't around (ironic since Koken doesn't like him at all). Because of her pushover personality, he would be the one to step in and protect her, often times getting into fights. While she does stop him from getting into fights that don't concern her, she's unable to stop him from attacking those that pick on her. He's much smarter than he lets on, but because he'd given up trying to compete with his brother, chooses to get below average grades. He spends most of his free time drawing or in rhyme battles with his male raven AllMate, Kuro.
★ Kōken 後見 (AllMate) || "Ko-kun"
They've been together for eight years now and are extremely close. Since Hideaki lives away from home, Koken is the main source of comfort and protector. He's the only one she'll be truly honest to about her feelings and frustrations. He'll be the one to memorize her schedule to remind her of what she needs to do and make sure she's on time for school and the like. He'll also be the one to give her a pep talk before a Rhyme battle to make sure she doesn't throw the match or choke. Although he acts reserved around her in public, he is rather affectionate when they're alone or in the company of family. He loves a good scratch and belly rub from Kanarei (sometimes from Kaede and Hideaki as well). Koken respects everyone in the Tanaka household with the exception of Shinobu who he thinks is a pest. Those two will fight constantly, and Koken will often curl up against Kanarei to taunt the other.

[ L I T | Four Years Ago ] 'I'll kill them.'

Kanarei's legs had buckled beneath her at Shinobu's bedside. Her slender fingers curled against the flimsy white sheets that the unconscious figure slept on. His head was bound with white gauze, a patch covered an eye, a cast on his left leg, and miscellaneous bruising and stitches covered in more gauze. It hurt to even look at him. Yet she continued to stare. Her eyes hollowed in horror at the sight. Features, paling into a sickly greenish hue as her vision blurred.

'I. Will. Kill. Them.'

The voice at the back of her mind repeated. Louder. Stronger. Angrier. Shock and horror morphed into an emotion foreign to the naturally submissive child. Hate. A burning hatred that seared into her bones. A hate that caused the rolling tears to carve its memory into her soul as they cascaded down her cheeks.

"I didn't think hate was in my vocabulary... they've proven me wrong."Disclaimer: She doesn't actually kill anyone cause that's illegal, but she really wants to though. This is basically what gets her into Rhyme, so it's a pretty important piece of her history. You probably won't ever see this side of her. Unless you become someone who's really important to her and get hurt.

[ L I T | Just a Normal Day ] There were books everywhere. Staggered on desks and chairs, stacked on racks, and flowing over the edge of a king sized bed. Sprawled amongst the plush and paper was a brunette with her nose buried deep in a book titled, '99 Psychopaths'. All that could be heard was the ticking of a diminutive grandfather clock and the occasional shifting of her AllMate, Koken. That was, until the door was shoved open with a bang. Kanarei screeched something along the lines of 'please don't kill me with that axe' before realizing that it was none other than Shinobu and Hideaki who were both now, laughing. Hideaki kept a hand over his mouth to be polite but Shinobu roared, clutching his gut.

"Th-that was not funny!" She exclaimed, flustered, as she slammed the book shut.

"S-sorry Kana-chan, we were just--"
"You should have- Aha- seen your- haha- face!" Shinobu cut off his elder brother, trying to contain his laughter to speak, only to fail.

In response, the girl hid her face in her book, embarrassed. "Y-you guys are terrible!"

Hideaki pushed past Shinobu, maneuvered past stacks of books before reaching his sister. In a soft, kind voice, he began "Sorry about that Kana-chan," and began to pat her head endearingly, "but Shinobu and I were just trying to call you down for dinner. Will you join us?"

The girl peeked up at him for a moment before nodding twice.

Koken was the first to get off the bed and head towards the door. Just as he brushed past Shinobu, a loud 'whack' sounded followed by a yelp from Shinobu, having been swatted in the bottom by Koken's tail.

Kanarei let out a light laugh.

Of course Koken would do that. He is, after all, her guardian.Note: She really likes books and she's easily scared by loud noises.

Man, drawing animals is really out of my comfort zone. But this group looked too good and seemed too interesting to just pass up on. At least this'll force me to draw more animals which is good!
