Description This is going to be my last post for a while gallery wise so I figured I'd make it a good one. I know I said I wouldn't post anymore DIVAS stuff but this is really, really, really, the last one.

REALLY.

If you'd like some more info on this book just pop on over to the writer's blog here: [link] and scroll down a few entries to get some more details.

This page is totally different from the thumbnail in terms of layout but I think it gives it more of a punch than what I had originally planned.

My goodness...now THIS is dynamic. Open the dictionary and look it up, a picture of this comic page should be right there. It defines and redefines the term.

Your pinups are great but looking at what you can accomplish in sequential format nearly drives me to tears.

Aww the last one?! *sniffles* Hey I love the concept and your style plus the name. Great way to get attention to readers. I really enjoy seeing your penciled work before the inking process. If only there where a comic penciler in this area. I would beg to be an aprentice. LOL Hmm. Maybe a bit of research might be in order to find one. Awsome work once again. Love the poses you set up and the reflections bending around objects. Very cool.

Oh SNAP! Panel number one is just...that panel right there, it's a huge leap and bound towards carving out your name on Professional Broadway and 6th street, D-man. Everything that I love about the composition is in that panel - direction! First thing I saw and the last thing I looked at. Gotta say you did a bang up job leading the eye in all of those panels. Can't wait to see how Di's inks will look over this and I'm really, really anxious to see how she renders in some of those tight lines (Incidentally, these seem like more textures on your part than is standard?). I'm going to put some cash aside, maybe £5, and make it an exclusive Divas trust fund or something. I WANT this issue.

Interesting. I love the expression in the first panel.

Sorry for being a complete newb... But what are the X's for?

stalk In reply to CherryLunar [2006-07-16 20:25:06 +0000 UTC]

No need for newb apologizes here, Cherry. The "X's" are meant to let the inker know that the designated area is a solid black fill. In theory you can use them to avoid putting too much graphite on the page but I tend to get carried away and shade in the fill regardless.

Hope this makes sense.

The bit with the guy reflected in the dumbbell is awesome, man. I REALLY like that part. I also like the dramatic composition on the last panel. Excellent work here man! Feels tighter that the other pages in terms of linework, too. Very well done!

stalk In reply to Gunmetalblack [2006-07-15 17:54:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. The first few pages of any new project for me seem stiff and exploratory until I build up the confidence to just blow up all over them with graphite. Once I get going then and hit that all important "zone" watch out!

I still gotta send them out quick or put them away because I'm never satisfied and I'll keep erasing and doodling on them until the end times if I don't. Being my worst critic and all...

You're welcome! I think you've hit quite an amazing little groove here and if you're still coming up to speed the newer pages will be even better, I bet.

Well, that's unavoidable, of course, but I think you've earned at least one bow for this pic so bask in it while ya can.

Not too much black for ya?

Seriously though, it's hard for me to get outta that b&w mindset small press put me into. I've got some projects coming up that I find pulling back on the shading is killing me since they are being colored. I have to admit, it's been a learning experience for me.

Thanks for the kind words.

While I am pencilling the entire book the inking chores are falling to a very talented and lovely girl named Diana Greenhalgh who I'll be hanging with at SDCC and who I've been dying to work with for a while now. If you'd like to see some of her work just check out her page here: =mechangel2002 Coloring is still up in the air at this juncture.

I would love to even just attempt to color these pages. But I'm sure you're looking for some more refined talent. I still have a ways to go before I get to your level. But I'll get there eventually.
