Description "Captains Log USS Euderion: Today we experienced the implications of the prime directive first hand. It is one think to discuss the pros and cons of the non-interference policy inside an auditorium at the academy or with your Superiors at Starfleet Command but this...this is just frustrating!

We arrived at Pentor IV three days ago after the anthrpological Team on the ground transmitted an distress call. They warned us that the tensions between the two major powers on the planet were rising and that a precautionary evacuation of the "Duck Blind"-Bases would be wise. During the last decades this already has happened a few times and we didn´t expect this time to be any different. We were wrong.

A few hours after we beamed the last Team back on board one side launched their arsenal of nuclear warheads in what looked like an pre-emptive strike. The other side reteliated and now we are witness to a full scale world war with nuclear weapons.

First readings suggest that this planet will see a nuclear winter which will last at least a decade if not more. Any survivors will find themselves in a totally different and destroyed world....

Damn it! We could have helped those People! We knew about their cold war. We knew what a threat those missiles were...first hand! World War III on Earth... the time of the awakening on Vulcan....this has happend so many times before. At least we could have disabled some of those warheads. But no, we are not allowed to interfere in the normal evolution of a species even if it means their destruction.
So all we could do was to send the selfdestruct-order to our cloaked bases, launch 4 Type 7 surveillance probes into high Orbit and monitor the obliteration of a whole civilization. To say the Crew was shocked would be the understatement of the year. We felt sad, angry.... and just plain helpless. Crew-Moral is on a an all time low.
We will leave this System during the hour. We are ordered to pick up some dignitaries on Risa for some Kind of conference. This little war down on Pentor IV will probably just be another footnote in our database and we will continue our job......normally i really love what we do but what we´ve seen here. Explosions, whole Citys obliterated, all those piles of smoke..... it´s times like this I start to think about the logic in some of our policies. Captain Delia, out"

Captain Metlesits would say, "Screw the Prime Directive" and intervene. This is why clever captains 1, don't record everything into the official log and 2, are always prepared with a damn good explanation.

It is maddening to have this tremendous power, and do nothing to stop a race from genocide.

I would send a call to SFC, and ask for either some down time for the crew.  If not, then ask for additional counselors to be temporarily assigned to the ship (because even the ship's counselors are going to need to talk to someone)

Well, with great power comes great responsibility

I just love to think about ethical dilemmas like that....and yeah, i think there is a whole troop Transport full with counselors on it´s way.
