So I never saw the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the theater when it first came out, but this month I got to watch a special theater showing of the extended edition, and as;dfjasdjkhfajklsdhfjkshjklh SO EPIC so of course I had to draw.And...because I have not summoned the motivation to draw any actual portraits, we get these. They are so fun
Some of them were really easy to caricature--Frodo (I may have overdone it on the eyes a little...), Gandalf, Merry, and Pippin. Some of the others were really hard to do though (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, SAM GAMGEE)...and he ended up being more of a portrait with a big nose.
Also Viggo Mortensen has creeper eyes which only get creepier when exaggerated. That was hard to work around...In the end I like them all though, even Legolas--or as I like to call him, LOLgolas. Apologies to any Legolas/Orlando Bloom fans. He's aesthetically pleasant enough, with fine features nice for playing an elf (though he's assuredly NOT a natural blonde), but his melodramatic style of acting totally butchered the character. I admit that a bit of that is due to the script writers ("A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night." Um, yeah, first of all a red sunrise is not news; and also? We're in a war. We know that blood was spilled last night. ) Okay, rant over.
Oh and in case you're wondering how I draw these: I can draw caricatures while watching a movie, but I didn't for any of these because I was in the theater. For most of them I just got details from memory and various pictures without "duplicating" any one; Sam and Gandalf are the exceptions. Gandalf because I love that picture of him, Sam because he was so hard to draw. Oh, these people with their even and balanced features...the bane of caricature. Balance is pretty difficult to exaggerate.
tl;dr I drew caricatures of all the members of the fellowship of the ring. Enjoy!

Heeeeeeeey, leave Leggi alone! It's not his fault he got the daft lines (e.g. 'This forest is very old.' Ahem. Forests tend to be old. Ever been in a young forest? I think not.). But still. But that pic made me LOL! His ears! And Frodo is just lookin' so awesome there! Good work!

Sometime I will have to tell you an experience of mine regarding these movies. I am a lifelong fan of Tolkien. There are few universes that have been created in human imagination that I would wish to actually live in. This is perhaps the only one. I read "The Hobbit" each year as a treat to myself on my Birthday. (Side note my sister is emphatically against these stories, she thinks I fantasize far too much).
All of your caricatures are wonderful You captured the essence of each so very well. If you are interested Orlando Bloom did a movie called "Kingdom of Heaven" that I quite liked and he is his natural color hair there. LOLgolas, that is funny. I love the films but I think I like the books better. But I do enjoy the films. I will not tell you my favorite character. You would be disappointed in me probably. But it was not Legolas.

I adore Tolkien. Have you read the Silmarillion? I love it at least as much as I love the LoTR trilogy, and that says a lot.
The only other movie I've seen Orlando Bloom in is the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and I liked him there. His melodrama fits a comedic action movie.

Well I did not want to detract from your work with one of my goofy stories. So I will send you a note so you are not curious. My favorite character in all the stories I think is Tom Bombadillo. There was a sort of whimsical mystery about him. Most people I meet do not like him much. I also enjoyed his wife Goldberry. And I am very fond of the idea of, were I to get my wish and live in Middle Earth, I would wish to be Rosie Cotton, and marry Sam. I also feel an empathy for Gollum. Because he is such a sad wretched thing. Of all the characters in the story he is the most human I think. Very flawed by all his fears and hatreds. I enjoyed the film "Kingdom of Heaven" though many people I know did not. But his hair is its natural color.

I thought the story in "Kingdom of Heaven" was romantic and inspirational also. And I have to confess I thought he looked really handsome in this movie. And I also like a beard. But it is not like a beard is a requirement either. Oh well I am wishy washy.
