Description I dedicate this one to ~Voikkuinen - one of my best friends, an all-around amazing person!

A couple of things about the drawing first:
- I know the propotions are all wonky - but I figured for a not-so-serious series like this, it's no use taking the time to redraw anything (I've tried to salvage what's salvageable in Photoshop, though).
- As you can see, my mental Enjolras has changed. Eek! I'm going to continue Spin the Bottle with the old design (if I find any time and energy to do so, that is) - but when I think of Enjolras nowadays, I usually see the ÅST version, for obvious reasons. However, as said, when drawing something not directly from any production, I don't want to try to draw any specific actor. So, this design of Enjy is a kind of a lovechild of ÅST!Enjy and my previous Enjy. I don't know if I like him enough to keep the design in the future, though. Maybe with a couple of changes...

So! E/R!
I confess: E/R moments, like the one Hadley and Ramin have in the 25th Ann., make my inner fangirl giggle a little.
But! Despite that, I'm not sure if I could be called an E/R shipper. You see, I think the pairing works the best in the canon way, unrequited (based on the book, I'm quite convinced Enjolras is asexual, so not too much hope there for R...). But, even though I can't see them as a romantic couple, I think Grantaire and Enjolras's relationship is very interesting, and Orestes Fasting, Pylades Drunk is one of my favourite chapters in the book. What can I say... I'm a sucker for sad endings, I guess!

Les Mis is not mine.

LOL. It's like... a) would never happen, but b) would look EXACTLY like this if it did! I love the sweatdrop of drunken/romantic intensity on Grantaire's brow, and Enjolras' utter shock. His world view just got a big crack in it, I think!

Ahhh, I ship them so much. Funny story, I was in the 2 volume, I think, of the book and I just flipped ahead to the 'Orestes fasting, Pylands drunk' because I was bored in the current chapter and wanted to know what was different between the musical and book. I was in school and in lunch and after I read 'Will you permit it?' I almost cried in front of my whole grade. I almost never cry.

Currently, Enjolras and Grantaire's death in the book, their death in the musical, and when they come back at the end to sing the reprise of 'Do you hear the people sing?' is the only time I'm moved enough to feel the need to cry. And that is why I feel I'm related to Javert.

P.S. I love that chapter! And Jean P. I love him every much.

Aww, aww... That's what you get for reading Les Mis in public, tears in your eyes no matter what... I guess I'm a total Javert in these matters though, I cried during the book only once!

But yeah, one of the best chapters of the book, Orestes Fasting, Pylades Drunk...

Aww, huutoitku on aina paikallaan...
Marius on kyllä yksi tomppeli yleensä.

Se on. Sääliö on ihan paras ilmaus ilmentämään Mariusta X''D Mut se on todellaki silti ihan älyttömän ihana. <3

Starlene In reply to Merrinella [2012-01-30 19:30:25 +0000 UTC]

Joku kehtasi tänään dissata Metsäketo!Mariusta yhdellä foorumilla. Mitä ihmettä siinä muka on vikana, sehän on sääliöyden kulminoituma!

Käsittääkseni lyhentämättömässä on montakymmentä sivua samasta aiheesta.
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables kirjassa - mitä kohtaa nyt tarkoitat..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Merrinella In reply to Starlene [2012-02-03 14:47:10 +0000 UTC]

Aijaa! :''O Niinpä, todellakin XD

JAA.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Starlene In reply to Merrinella [2012-02-03 20:49:20 +0000 UTC]

Ah, aivan! Siinä lyhennöksessähän se menee suunnilleen että
Mariuksen isoisä: "Sinullahan oli läheinen ystävä?"
Marius: "Niin. Courfeyrac."

No, se puutarhahomma on söpöä... Mutta ne ihanat yllätykset? Hämmentää vieläkin. ;D

Love this drawing! e/R content is hard to find!

I gotta admit, even as a hardcore shipper of this pairing, I have a hard time getting myself to read fanfiction where Enjolras is written with a sexuality. I do believe romantic attraction is a possibility for him, but seeing how fiercely he's driven by his ideals, that would have to be very carefully played out ^^'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Starlene In reply to gerako [2012-01-04 09:56:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I agree with that. I see Enjolras as asexual, and quite aromantic, too... Of course, that can be debated, but that's how I see his character...

EntirelyInsane [2012-01-01 19:46:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes, agreement with your opinion that unrequited E/R is best. A mutual relationship just wouldn't make any sense, would it?
Still, this picture makes me smile. Enj is like WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE and R just looks very fiercely intent. XD

Ha, well, I've actually read some good E/R fics. Sometimes if they're very well-written and done believably, I can enjoy them, as a sort of escapism/what-if sort of thing.

Starlene In reply to RvenclawPadawan [2011-12-26 11:34:49 +0000 UTC]

Grantaire's one of the revolutionary stundents. According to the book, he only hangs with them because he admires Enjolras, not because he believes in the revolution. In the musical, this attitude is usually shown by having Grantaire not take part to the fighting on the barricade, though he is there in the barricade scenes.
Recognising him! His first line in the show is before Red and Black, the "is Marius in love at last, I've never seen him ooh and aah" line. He's got a bottle with him in that scene, hence Enjolras saying "Grantaire, put that bottle down" to him. In Drink With Me, he has the "Drink with me to days gone by/Can it be you fear to die?/Will the world remember you when you've gone/Could it mean your death means nothing at all?/Is your life just one more lie" part. In the 25th Ann.... Well, check the song, check his interactions with Enjolras after that part, and maybe you can see where I got inspiration for this picture.

Never unsee. XD

Their faces are the greatest! I love this series!

And I'm with you about liking E/R moments, but not being able to ship it! E/R is, in my mind, doomed to have a sad ending. The moment they're on the same level has to be the moment they die or I think Grantaire would realize he doesn't actually love Enjolras, just the idealized version of him in his mind.

Enjolras does not look like he's happy with this.

As for E/R, as I told another dA user over on facebook, who, if she sees this, I'm sure she'll drop in, I can not see it being canon with Enjolras remaining canon. And besides, Grantaire would never want to drag Enjolras down, when what he loved so much was watching him fly.
But, I'm not going to rant at you. But just know that I have an essay length list of reasons it wouldn't work. Same with Erik and Christine.
But, that's just my two cents. *le shrug*

I don't even mind playing devil's advocate to get a good debate out of someone! When it's serious, like a lot of what's going on over there right now, I want nothing more to stop it.
But if it's just about who Christine belongs with, or whether Cosette's old dress is better than her new one, I will be on the scene, debating the other side, just for the heck of it.
