Dedicated, with lots of holiday cheer, to my friend Mimmi.I promise the rest of these will be less random. Slightly less.
I'm fully aware this couple has no basis in the book whatsoever, nor the traditional take of the musical. Instead this is, again, inspired by Åbo Svenska Teater's Les Mis, though not as directly stolen from it as yesterday's picture... Grantaire and Marius have a sort of a bromance going on in the ÅST production. They're amazing during Red and Black: they have a mock fight, they're hilarious and adorable in general. So, who knows, maybe ÅST!Grantaire would kiss ÅST!Marius if they happened to be under the same mistletoe?
Marius here was supposed to be a vaguely Glenn Daniel Nilsson-ish creature, since his take of Red and Black was especially fun to watch. Somehow I messed that and ended up with an Amaury Vassili instead. Photoshopping could save something, but still, not quite what I intended in the first place. Grantaire, then, is my own design, he's not supposed to look like anyone.

Åbo Svenska Teater. It's a theatre in Finland. They perform all their productions in Swedish. They performed Les Mis in 2010–2012, and this drawing was inspired by that production.

Sadly there's very little video material of the production available... But here are two trailers: [link] [link] – and here's a video of them singing One Day More in a Finnish theatre gala: [link] (a lovely performance, but the video quality is somewhat sad... and Enjolras's mic fails and you can't hear him. :/ Live TV, I guess those things simply happen sometimes... But I'd definitely preferred that to happen during some other act than Les Mis!!)

I know that feeling! I'm reading the book for the third time now. I've read the shortened Finnish translation twice before, and now I'm reading the full one in English... But even when I've read the abridged one, I admit I've been skipping some parts. It's a good read, but a huge book, no wonder it's often called The Brick...

It's rather useful being good at English when your native language is Finnish – after all, there are only 5 million of us Finns out of all the 7 billion people on this planet... ;D It's slower to read it in English, of course, and I don't know every single word, but I get by. (I'm also studying Swedish, but I'm not quite on the book reading level yet...)

AHHH this is ADORABLE.
Yet another reason why I would LOVE to go back in time and see this production. I always thought Red/Black had the potential to show that Marius actually had good relationships with these guys.

Do I wish I could go back in time, too... They had a video camera there during the last show, filming the performances for the theatre archive - how is that fair! Arrgh.
Oh well, it's useless to obsess about that. I guess I'll just have to keep drawing things from it as long as I still remember them...

I wish there were bootlegs, too. In my opinion, the production is too good to go without being saved somehow! But, as I've said to many people before (there's a surprisingly big amount of people who would like to take a look), I'm afraid it's not that easily done. Åbo Svenska Teater is tiny, and the actors walk around the first balcony all the time during the show, so anyone filming would very likely be noticed. I doubt many would want to take the chance, I most certainly wouldn't.
