This is for ~ColonelDespard for winning the latest #LesMisClub contest - she requested something with Enjolras, Combeferre and Courfeyrac, so here they are, with Gavroche, Feuilly and Joly thrown in for good measure.Also, if it's okay, this is for ~Southern00Belle 's illustration project. When I was going through my to do list, I noticed my plans for this request and one of the illustrations were very similar, so... If it annoys you, though, that this is not solely for the project (any deadlines yet?) I can draw another one, just let me know. I won't be showing the other illustrations to anyone before the video gets released!
As you can see, I changed the designs for both Courfeyrac and Feuilly here. I like Courfeyrac's new hair colour (it makes more sense if Enjy is the only one with a fabulous blonde 'do), but Feuilly's goatee thingy is probably coming back - I just forgot it here.
Les Mis is not mine.
I miss my old scanner more than I can say. I have to tweak the colours in Photoshop all the time nowadays. And this new scanner is too accurate - no tiny mistake of mine gets past its radar...

Awwwww! Love Courfeyrac's hair, miss Feuilly's goatee, Enjolras' expression is priceless. Gavroche has a great sense of motion. The hammer on that pistol better not be cocked, mister! Especially not with Combeferre in front of you!!! >_< And Joly. Oh, Joly. I suppose it makes sense -- he's planning to live through this, and it *would* suck if they all had colds while they were building and defending a barricade. I can sympathize.

I had this on my binder when a kid sat down next to me during lunch at school and said "What's that?" and pointed. I said "That's the Friends Of The ABC." He said "What are they, some sort of white supremicy group?" And I said "No, they're French revoluntionists." And then he said "They could still be white supremicists." And I said "Pac Man, there are pretty much NO other races than white in France. They're just trying to overthrow the governement."
Thus began a heated discussion about France's military skills whilst a representive from our school district stood nearby watching us, an amused look on her face.

Haha, wow. I clearly should draw a color-blind casting version of the Les Mis cast, just to change the course of conversations like that...

I need to act some sort of colour-blind Les Mis cast thing in my to-do list - I've been wanting to draw that for ages!

Absolutely wonderful - I love this! Love the play of expressions, from Enjolras outfront leading in his own implacable, indominatable way to Combeferre at his side with a book and darling, darling Courfeyrac. I'm perfectly happy with the different hair colour, as it looks close to how I see him!

Mun mielestä arki-ihmiselle kaikki on normaalia, koska arki-ihmisen arki on monimuotoista, kun kaikki tekeminen on arkista, joten kourimistakin tapahtuu kaikkien kohdalla ainakin viis kertaa viikossa, eikös se oo ihan loogista? Vai elikö ne sitä aikaa kun arkea oli kuus päivää viikossa?

I used fineliners for the lineart, and Copic markers to colour this. I love the markers - they're rather expensive, yes, but refillable and all-around amazing. Currently, I've 52 different shades. I hear there's a new, trendy brand of markers in Japan and Copics are history, but I hope that trend doesn't find its way to Finland anytime soon...

this is gorgeous, awesome, and adorable. So much detail! The colors you picked are terrific. As I'm typing this out I'm just staring at their pants. In a non-sex-maniac-sort-of-way, they look so cute!!! XD

Personally, I'm not 100% happy with the colours - my new scanner is really, really precise, picking up the smallest of lines - great with black-and-white lineart - but it's not that amazing with colours. So, I've tweaked this is Photoshop quite a bit, but I can't get it quite right. Still, glad you like!

Maybe you can adjust the scanner settings a bit -- I've found that if I adjust the levels manually, I can get much better scans. I usually raise the "gamma" setting to pick up the detail in pencil drawings, so maybe if you lower it, it won't pick up so many lines. And deepening the saturation or the midtones might help, who knows?

Oh, or -- could you use the magic lasso tool to capture the background and hit backspace to erase it? I also find that sometimes, when there's a lot of pencil smudge in the background, it's good to up the brightness until it's gone, then up the contrast. Or, up the brightness long enough to make the background white, lasso it and delete it, then bring your brightness back down and adjust as necessary.

But that may just be me with my weird aversion to awkward facial hair. Erm.
This is bloody adorable, though. I love all your companionable-comrades-in-arms pictures, because there's always such an air of camaraderie to them. And I adore Joly off to the side, with his scarf and umbrella and (what is that, is that possibly imaginary rain?...) And Gavroche. Gavroche is always fantastic.
And I like how Feuilly's carrying the flag. It's oddly fitting.

I think I like him better with it, makes him look a little more different from the rest (I've a bad habit of making everybody look the same - in The Hero half of the characters had the same hairdo, for example, I must try harder...), so I guess it's coming back the next time I draw him.
But thanks so much! I thought Enjy must be getting a little tired of carrying that flag everywhere he goes, must give him a little break...
