Chirinide had no idea what had inspired her to step into the dress shop and make a purchase. She was fairly certain the Kyorl school preached against impulse buying, along with getting tainted, cross-breeding and eating too much dark chocolate. But here was the flowery dress, complete with its short skirt and ruffles. It was made out of some sort of deep green flimsy material, like the pines of the Overworld. Completely impractical in a battle. The salesdrow said the dark colour would accentuate her fair skin and golden hair. It was another way of saying, "drowolath don't like this colour dress." But it looked nice on her. Or at least, it did in the pleasantly lit shop.

She felt absolutely unclean.

There was only one vague reason for purchasing a dress like this, really. It came walking around the corner, adjusting his headband and equally green cloak. Chirinide was pretty sure Shan liked the colour green. He certainly wore a lot of it himself.

"Morning, Chiri. Where shall I follow you today? A nest of demons? To the Overworld again?" He smiled normally.

Normally.

Did the boy have no eyes in his skull? Did she look dressed to head into a nest of demons? Chiri was aware she needed to say something to break the silence. She crossed her arms and said, "No demons today."

"Good!" said Shan brightly. "I was about to suggest you needed to go change-"

That was the last straw. Chirinide tossed Shan into a handy nearby fountain and stalked off, fuming. Shan emerged from the fountain, raining droplets of water and confusion. "What.. What did I do this time?" Chirinide had been in such a strange mood lately. First with the chocolates, then with the bizarre hairdo. It had looked like a tiktiki nest, but with manaflowers woven into strategic spots. The most awkward incident was when Chiri wore heels to go on patrol. She kept clutching his arm for support. For the first time in his life, Shan had hoped to Sharess they would not encounter a demon that day. This green dress was the latest in a string of inexplicable mysteries. Women. He had to learn to go with them. If Shan didn't know better, he would think Chirinide was interested in him. Everyone, including Shan, knew Chirinide Val'Kyorlsolenurn had the emotional capability of a golem.

He burst out laughing. A couple nearby templars frowned at his lack of austerity.

Shan was going to have to find Chiri's dark chocolate stash and hide it for the sake of getting work done.
