I think about Pacifist Route NarraChara a lot.
A lot of people want to take Merciless Chara as their true nature, but… everything taken together that doesn’t fit? Like… I think Chara was a very damaged child, a lot of it due to whatever drove them to climb a mountain of no return, and I think they wanted the people who wronged them to be punished (I also think a lot of their desire to kill the villagers was those people were actively murdering Asriel I mean come on). I think maybe they didn’t really understand the depth of the problem when Asgore was accidentally poisoned and didn’t know what to do other than try to laugh it off, make light of it.
And… I’ve mentioned this before, but I think that when Frisk falls and wakes Chara, they’re exactly like Flowey - memories, essence, base personality, and determination, but no soul. Chara, though, is either lucky enough or unlucky enough to have you, the player, influencing them in that soulless state.
And yeah, maybe Chara in their natural state can’t measure up to Frisk’s level of compassion and mercy and all-loving forgiveness, but - can you?
