Description More of my knitting. These are the rainbow arm socks I knitted for Luka. As you can see, he's delighted by their warm, fuzzy faggotry. Me, I'm pretty proud of finally learning to knit in the round without the little double-ended needles squirting out of the thing like watermelon seeds and losing themselves under the bed. The answer is bamboo, folks.

Merry Christmas, Luka, you shirt lifter.

(Edit: Folks seem to really like these, they're fun to knit, and the yarn I use for them isn't going to be discontinued anytime soon. I've decided to keep making them as long as people want them. I've been charging $40, which includes shipping if you're in North America; overseas, add an extra $5. Hit me up in a DA note if you'd like me to whip out my pointy sticks and make you a pair. )

Go for it! It's a lot easier than it sounds. Once you've gone a couple rows in the round, it all clicks and then it's no harder than knitting flat.

you knit these on the round
and do you knit over for the hole for the thumb?

StarTyrian In reply to lipstick-lust [2008-06-04 02:31:44 +0000 UTC]

I turn back, and knit back and forth for a while to make the hole.

I ADORE these. I might be bothering you for some when I manage to get some money. They have all of my faaaaavourite colours. (Not hard to do, Rainbow and black, Yay!)

Haha, good job. I can't knit....Well I can just not well...and I can't start it by myself.

Me: GRANDMA! HOW THE HECK DO I DO THIS!? *tangled in the yarn*
Grandma: Oh for the love of....Give it here.
Me: Yay~

Hee, now I'm imagining you as a cat, all tangled up in a yarn ball.

These are fun to knit, go ahead and note me if you decide you want them; I won't be tired of making them anytime soon. ^_^

I spy an alcohols T-shirt!

Which means basically instead of buying these from you, I should just sucker punch Luka, steal his clothes, and run like hell.

I really need to pay more attention to my watchlist. These are awsome. XD
I haven't done armsocks since the last time I tried to Cosplay Kano and I had cut them out of old soccer socks. They are completely awsome! I'd so wear them to work. They're so much easier to get on and off than a jacket and easy to store! From the picture, you're work is perfect. Nice lines, no problem switching colors, no messy ends. Very nice!

Dude, they remind me of rainbow bright. I loved rainbow bright when I was little, my color-blind uncle would read it to me and ask what the colors were like. Where'd you get the pattern?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StarTyrian In reply to forgotten-angel777 [2008-01-23 18:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Made it up. I can't read patterns worth a damn, so I tend to invent my own.

forgotten-angel777 In reply to StarTyrian [2008-02-01 04:42:22 +0000 UTC]

Gwar!!!! Now I'll have to like zoom in on them and go cross-eyed in hopes of making my own. Or just give up and try to find a basic pattern to go nuts on. I have a hard time following patterns too, but not as bad as my friend who tried to make a hat and ended up with a muzzle for her cat...... It was way too funny.

There's a fair number of free patterns for this kind of thing, I think. Try Knitty. Here's the basic idea, though:

Swatch, and get a slightly stretched gauge; using the circumference of your arm, get the number of stitches you'll need, rounding up to a multiple of 4. Cast that on with the black, using a long-tail cast-on, and divide between 3 dpn's.

Knit about 2 inches of k2p2 ribbing. Switch to purple; knit about an inch. Then blue, then green, etc., knitting about an inch of each color.

Switch to black; knit about 3/4 inch. Wrap and turn. Knit back and forth for one inch. Then knit in the round again for half an inch, and bind off.

That's all there is to it!

I should add: if you're making it for a larger person, you might want to add a row or two to each stripe, and possibly make the thumb hole a couple rows longer. Similarly, for a smaller person, you might thin down the stripes, though I wouldn't advise making the thumb hole smaller than an inch unless you're knitting them for a child.

Okay, so 50% of the brains behind Metanoia... knits. That's incredibly weird, but still kind of cool in an indie kind of way.

And I need to not comment on these things when I'm incoherent from lack of sleep, don't I?
