i can see why this is your favourite. a lot of "emotive" portraits are very staged and have no feeling to them whatsoever, but this photo i could feel every emotion and that is exceptional considering a portion of the face is hidden and there is no direct contact to the eye. very well done. the halo around the head is stunning.
