Description It is told among the wise that the First War began before Arda was full-shaped, and ere yet there was any thing that grew or walked upon earth; and for long Melkor had the upper hand. But in the midst of the war a spirit of great strength and hardihood came to the aid of the Valar, hearing in the far heaven that there was battle in the Little Kingdom; and Arda was filled with the sound of his laughter. So came Tulkas the Strong, whose anger passes like a mighty wind, scattering cloud and darkness before it; and Melkor fled before his wrath and his laughter, and forsook Arda, and there was peace for a long age. And Tulkas remained and became one of the Valar of the Kingdom of Arda; but Melkor brooded in the outer darkness, and his hate was given to Tulkas for ever after.

Pure of heart and joy of strength. So glad I found this one! In Dark arts Morgoth can’t be beat, but Tulkas got him good. The fighting spirit.

You may think this way if you want. This is only my interpretation of Tolkien's words about Tulkas and his coming into the world of Middle-Earth. Some even offered to draw him naked as a baby.

He's one of those Vala that doesn't get depicted much in fanart. So amazing!

Alas, this is true. That's why I wanted to work on his looks. He is a very inspiring figure. I think one day I'll make a few illustr. with him.

definitely! specially your choice of colors and blending mix very well together, to me it almost has the same sort of feel as medieval oil paintings but then in a more modern coat (as it is still obvious it is digital art) I love it!^^

looks great, but he's got cloths on??? lol I understand the decision to clothe him.  for my Valar poster I drew him completely naked, but just kinda shadowed out his "nether-regions" lol I figured I had to emphasize his muscles and manliness, but I like your version here of him as well.  your stuff is amazing as always!

oh my gods... Tulkas looks so badass and he KNOWS it.
My first thought was to compare him to some images of Thor (mythology not comics/movie) A mighty warrior that loves to brawl but also a good drink with friends lol

steamey In reply to Katzztar [2015-09-01 08:44:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah? I assumed that Tulkas often compared with Ares.

Katzztar In reply to steamey [2015-09-01 14:24:17 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't too big on Greek mythos growing up, I liked the Norse better
In my head always saw Ares as pretty much grim all the time, and while Thor was grouch when being played pranks on him, he was still joyous in battle and drink

Though... I do admit Tulkas would have the intelligence of Ares and not Thor XD  In the myths, Thor wasn't known for his intelligence, sort of a 'dullard',
Ares is a good fit in where the 'portfolio' (as D'n'D games call it) is concerned, as both are concerned with battle.
Yes, Thor was connected with battle but he was 'god of thunder' and not 'god of war' as Ares is.

Ares was a kind of pathetic coward, who always ran back to Mommy every time something went wrong. Tulkas is definitely more of a Thor or Heracles.
