Description Built by Alco in 1943 for express passenger service, Amara suits her personality: Strong, attractive and stylish. She, along with her brothers and sisters, were referred to as Yellow Jackets because of their yellow running boards and skirting. Amara hauled passenger trains and a few freight trains until being retired in 1952 and sold to the Locomotive Preservation Society in New York City, along with 3 other members of her class. From 1952 and 1982, Amara hauled tourists along the New York City harbor and featured in a number of films because of her beauty and style. In December of 1982 she was transferred to the Pennsville Scenic and regularly hauls passenger trains and rarely freight trains out of Johnsonburg, PA. Being one of the few NC&STL 4-8-4s operating regularly, Amara sometimes goes on rail tours sponsored by the National Railway Historical Society and the Locomotive Preservation Society. She may hate hauling freight and getting dirty, but she can still make you stare at her beauty and gorgeous looks.
