The inclined cylinders of these engines seem to give them an interesting movement as they go along, it's got a sort of skip to it.

Inclined cylinders were a typical feature of Beyer Peacock locos in particular. They were fashionable at the time because it was held that inclined cylinders wore out less quickly than completely horizontal cylinders. To some extent, I'd say such was true, as theses engines have survived for so long.

They also made the engines far more stable at higher speed because they were between the frames, therefore creating less of a rocking motion. This also extends the life of the framework.

Yes, that is one reason why the British preferred having inside cylinders on their locos. That may also be one reason why steam had more longevity in British compared to elsewhere.

A trend I noticed on inside cylinder engines mainly is the use of double frames, ala City of Truro.

These engines truly are classic examples of steam traction on the archetypical, turn of the century, steam railway.

Thank you. This was my favourite railway that I saw in the British Isles. The Bluebell Railway's my next stop.

I also have tons of pictures I took on the Severn Valley Railway, at Didcot Railway Centre, and the Strathspey Railway I have yet to post. I also may possibly go to the NRM.
