Description I decided to make myself an air filter mask for Steam & Cinders [link] , a Steampunk Larp in MA that I go to. This is the result! It is made from 6/7 oz veg tanned leather, with brass plating, a sueded pigskin lining, and a built in filter!

To make it more comfortable to wear around the neck for long periods of time and to ease putting on when needed I made the straps capable of swinging.

Conceptually, I would like to use a design like this as a base for a leather "beak" surrogate for a long term project I have in mind. Do you have any suggestions or helpful hints in doing so?

Do you mean something like a plague doctor style beak, or something smaller?

Probably something smaller, resembling a stylized small bird beak, but the same scale as your current mask. Any assistance you can give would be HUGE.

I have some thoughts for you. I'm told that an event involving swashbuckling or one involving crafting is going to happen soon, so we can discuss it then.

Do you have more images of this fine mask from other perspectives? a frontal perspective would be great, preferably from a frog perspective towards it's front.

Good leatherwork. Nice tight, uniform stitching. I always look at the straps for the detailing that not all crafters take the time for...beveling, dyeing, and burnishing the edges. Well done!

Thank you! And yeah, nothing drives me up a wall more than half finished straps and edges.

THis thing makes me think of steampunk Sith facemask. Excellent leather work. What type of filter did you use?

Yes what did you use for the filter?

Nothing fancy, just some cloth I had lying around. Its enough to make breathing in smokey or very dusty areas easier, and doesn't impair normal breathing.

Some alterations, and this would also fit a cyberpunk theme.
