Great, rich values! I love the really deep blacks you have in this one. Great stuff! And what a nice buck! I'm still waiting for the day when I can photograph a guy like this.

I never saw a coat like his. It was silver or white tipped, especially on his back ( I saw his back more often than not)
His neck gets swollen and he is in peak psychical form. Strong and determined. He won't tolerate any other bucks in his area and wants all the Does for himself. This is what keeps the gene pool strong.

He was definately one of the biggest Whitetails I ever encountered, but he had great personality as well.

What part of the country are you from?

You should be able to locate the herds and start to get to know their habits, runs, feeding areas and beds. You are in essence a hunter, only you shoot with your camera.

Thanks so much. they bulk up all summer for the fall Rhut. They are in their prime and sometimes fight for females.

He was the reigning Buck in that area and you could see the power he held over the younger Bucks.

I like deep shadow and will punch up the contrast to get it. You must be careful because if it is not close to where you want it to begin with, you may develop noise. Some have criticized me for that, but I believe it adds drama to an image, and can focus the viewer's eye where I want it. I have a tendency to underexpose a little as well. Some of the images have been color enhanced as well.
Sunlight can be harsh at times and will wash out color, but you can bring it back in the darkroom, just like the old days, only these days it's much simpler. Sometimes I will reduce the saturation a bit for a more subtle effect.

He is. I got the chance to spend some time observing his demeanor, and he ran of Bucks with larger racks. He has heart.

They are such magnificent animals and the sweetest faces! When I was little the rangers brought a baby deer whose mother had been shot to my grandmother's so I could see it, I still have that picture.

I believe that there is no greater beauty than God"s creations. A mountain, a butterfly, a fawn, a sunset, name it.

Thanks........It's alot of hard work though, to move into position without frightening them away. They have powerful senses, great vision.

I've seen him twice now as I know his territory. The rut is almost over so he moves off more quickly than if there were a doe in heat in the area. Only got one or two shots of him this time before he bolted.

Yeah........They are winding down, not so many does in heat. So the bucks move off more quickly. They will drop their antlers soon and you won't be able to tell Bucks from Does unless you're close.

He deffinately is beautiful. This was the second time I got close to him. Get's the heart pounding as you approach. Took about 40 minutes of careful stalk before he nailed me. Then I use myskills to cnvince him that I am another animal, and no threat. This is hit or miss.

Yes, camo is a must. You can't get close to them unless you can make yourself blend into the background, and even then they know you don't belong there, but they are not alarmed unless they catch your scent.

He does do that, I should shoot video. It's probably a better medium for this. His gate is also filled with confidence. I guess this is to frighten off other suitors to his harem.
