I thought I'd get this done in time for 's Draw My Sonic OC contest. I got this done at 4:31 am on the last day of the deadline! Whew! Definitely worth it!
I love Purple's character Heart the Deer! I thought of this kind of drawing to fit his personality and I am very happy with the result! The grass is what took me the longest! I have been looking at tutorials of what way I can draw the grass.
So, here is my drawing of Heart the Deer for you and for the contest, Purple! I hope you like it! ^^

It's a really nicely designed character. I even once talked to its owner and mentioned that I would love to draw him too at some point in the future if given a chance.

I think that to make the grass look more realistic, you also need to use perspective. Close to the viewer it's better to draw larger visible blades of grass, maybe some visible weeds. As you move farther away from the viewer they should be getting smaller. Close to the horizon it shouldn't be possible to see individual blades of grass at all. Horizon is pretty far away after all.
Other than that I think it would be nice to make that grassy background a bit more varied. Maybe put some flowers around it, maybe some rocks here and there. Perhaps something also in the distance like a house, a forest, a mountain... That perfectly straight line of the horizon without any obstructions just looks a bit too plain.
Drawing pretty backgrounds is never easy. These are just some tips, but it's a lot of work.
