When I first began working on this pentagram I started with the intention of making a compass to help me learn the directions. As I continued working I realized that I had begun to sketch in a more and more intricate piece. Eventually, colors began to shin across my vision. As I continued to work on the piece, I realized that I was making something more like a Tarot Card. I printed a copy and I have one on my personal miniature altar which is the size of a small card deck. When I completed the picture and sent it in, I was told it wouldn't qualify as a pentagram because it was artwork, not a physical, sculptural piece. That done, I set it on the back burner.
Going back over, I realized that not only would this qualify as a tarot card, but since I had drawn it during a meditation, I was curious as to the actual symbolism of the Ace of Pentacles. I looked up several bits of information on it. I have always wanted to build and make my own tarot deck. As an artist, symbolism and pictorial beauty is very important to me.
I have a copy of it on the title page of my book of shadows. The pentacle is also used as a decoration for my personal travel altar. I printed this pentacle in several sizes and pasted (and laminated) one copy onto the personal altar I use. I have the copy in my book of shadows printed on fine parchment paper. The original was done on white paper so it would be easy to make copies of. I made it originally in pencil on heavy weight white paper. A colored version was made using photoshop on my computer.

This card is to help me remember the pentagram's elemental direction and the elemental compass directions. This pentacle is multi-purpose and it will be used for many things and already has. It displays a wooden pentacle covered in a little bit of moss. Each of the pentacle's points is marked with the element it represents. The top displays crossed unicorn horns, my totem's strongest weapons. The horns are also for healing and hope. The bottom portion shows a compass with the four elements in their traditional directions. They are color coded for their elements.

As I studied the ace of pentacles I found that although the ace of pentacles was about prosperity and physical wealth, it is also about beginnings. As we learned in our early first degree studies, the element of earth is primarily about integration.

The compass has very strong symbolism around it to assist me in remembering the four directions and their correlating elements. The top one is the Northern earth creature, the dryad with the leaves twining around the pentagram. The roots twine about the rest of the compass it is near. Behind it tower powerful mountains. The Eastern air is symbolized by the mighty griffon displayed in gold. Behind it is a delicate cloud. At the bottom in South is the coiled dragon. Crimson and guarding a precious egg representing the core of the earth, the dragon smolders and blazes. Behind the dragon are flames and plumes of radiant fire. At the west is the noble unicorn. This creature of water, purifying, cleansing and horned. This unicorn is the rare water unicorn with fin-like wings and a swirling mane and tail. The water rushes in fine waves behind the unicorn. Each supports its elemental symbol and helps to visualize which direction the elements are in. Spirit is the pool of liquid “energy” in the center of the compass...spirit is everywhere...

Here you can see the direction of each of the elements. They are reflected in the different compass points. The earth itself is like the compass in many ways. It is round, contains all the elements and directions. It is also the blending of each of the elements to keep the world operating strongly. As the ace of pentacles is about prospering and flourishing, none of that can happen until the balance of each of the elements is observed within earth's boundaries.

You also need to be able to tap into these energies in order to gain your desires, which is much of what the ace of pentacles is about. As an ace card it is about beginnings, setting the stage and creation. The power of the ace of pentacles is about making your dreams come true. Sometimes it can be a gift, offer, an encounter or some kind of opportunity that presents itself. These powers of luck are reflected in the unicorn horns which are held aloft in strength and potential. The potential grows even now (moss on the pentagram) and provides solid energy.

This is also a time to focus on your foundation and trust. Focusing on the nature around you will help ground you and this is the time to enjoy the body and the joys of manifesting your physical existence. Although not a time for fantasy, this is a time for working with your comfort and the reliable experiences that put you at ease. This makes the time ideal for manifesting your dreams into something tangible. By deciding what you want to work on, it allows you to make those dreams a reality.

Nature is an influential inspiration to Stephanie, as she seeks to augment and reflect what she sees around her in a variety of mediums. Inspired by medieval art, the fantasy and science fiction genre and more, Stephanie has developed a style of mythical realism. Stephanie uses a variety of styles and mixed mediums in her artwork. She regularly uses digital mediums such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter and more. She favors traditional mediums such as colored pencil, chalk, pen, ink, pencil, acrylic, watercolor. She has been known to adapt fabric, recycled art, recycled purses to create art that is both useful and stylish.

Stephanie has been interviewed and featured in several magazines and websites. Her artwork has been published several times in books and magazines. She is best known for artwork featured in publications such as the Page, the Twisted Vine, the Unicorn and others. She often donates teaching, administrative assistance, research and artwork to many local non-profits. She has taught in-person and online classes on food preservation, writing, gardening, spirituality, unicorns, art and more.
