You are amazing at portraits and I love your style throughout all your paintings, but I think what grabs my attention here is the hand. I think hands can at times have more character within them than anything else and can therefore create powerful emotion themselves. I think this is an awesome example of that idea. Plus, hands are super hard in my opinion. Great job! 
Have you heard of Nicolai Fechin? I don't think hes well known but your paintings remind me of his portraits sometimes, he paints really emotional hands as well.

yes hands are the hardest part i've found trying to paint too. i try to aviod them at all costs but somtimes you've just gotta face them
