Description

This is a collage I made of clowns: part 2. Billy Wayne's Rollo the Clown from Adventures of Superman "The Clown That Cried" (1954). Krinkles the Clown from Sugar Rice Krinkles cereal commercials (1953-1956). Bob Bell's Bozo the Clown on Bozo's Circus (1960-1984). Marcel Marceau's Bip the Mime Clown from The Red Skeleton Hour [1961, 1965 and 1966] and Red Skelton's More Funny Faces (1983). King Moody's Ronald McDonald clown in McDonald's commercials (1969–1985) [based on Willard Scott's Ronald McDonald prototype from McDonald's commercials (1963-1965)]. Cesar Romero's Joker from Batman (1966-1968).

A lot of people have a fear of clowns. The fear of clowns is a real phobia called coulrophobia. I see these classic clowns as strange, campy and zany rather than scary. Billy Wayne's Rollo and Cesar Romero's Joker were criminal clowns but they were just thieves, they didn't kill anybody.

The Terre Haute Tribune [May 25th 1960] newspaper features an article by United Press International called "Aged Circus Clown Killed in Gun Battle... Monroeville, Indiana. A former circus clown, described by a neighbor as 'mad at the world' in his old age, was shot and killed Tuesday in a gun battle with the town marshal. Louis Rella Brown, who was born in a circus wagon at Philadelphia 86 years ago, fired two blasts at Marshal Herbert Renier with an ancient shotgun, and was felled by four shots from Renier's service revolver."

That clown Louis Rella Brown was an attempted killer clown trying to kill the town marshal.
