Description hey guys, okay--this will be the last stamp tonight. I SWEAR.

Look--i've read SO MUCH crazy yaoi written by 15 year old girls that i've lost my mind.
Seriously. I love romance, all kinds of romance, gay, straight or bi--but please
please

if you're going to write about relationships, about romance, about sex--wait until you can ascribe real emotions to your scene and your characters.
Mary Sues = ew

Smut is fine--bad smut is annoying as fuck.

I've read loads of romance novels.
They're all the same.
Hot guy, hot girl.
She starts out hating him.
He has a deep dark past.
They get over it.
bangbangbang
plot peak
more bangbangbang
marriage
sometimes, pregnancy.

Not to mention they are both extremely good together.

Everyone starts somewhere I guarantee all good writers/ artists started as shitty ones. And, as the tried and true internet phrase goes, "If you don't like it, don't look".

it has /nothing/ to do with skill and everything to do with writing within your experience and knowledge.

mixtapebangstamps In reply to StJoan [2011-02-09 19:17:01 +0000 UTC]

That one I, also, disagree with. Some of the most famous romance writers never got married/ had sex/ had a partner. I mean, J.K.Rowling never had an owl as a pet or had her life put in mortal peril, but she does a decent job writing about those things, yeah? Imagination and research go a long way. Now, if you're lack both of those things, thats a whole other story.

research leads to knowledge, if it's good research.

I couldn't agree more! There's a reason why I nearly only write lesbian romance (unless it is for a request, and even then I will not do male/male or male/female smut)...it's what I can write convincingly while not making the character act like morons!

Great stamp, and very true.

there is only ONE good rape fic. and its a deathnote one. Bloody Kisses, Strawberry Smiles. lots of emotion too. well. more than lots. it was great. and the rapey bits were painful. but still amazingly attention grabbing.

all other badly written things make me wanna shoot myself. but then sometimes that VERY SAME writer come out a month later with ABSOLUTE GOLD. its rare. but i love it.

UGH, I HATE poorly written Yaoi!
ESPECIALLY when it's written by a fifteen year old girl who has NO EARTHLY IDEA how male anatomy works.

I was talking with a friend a couple of days ago at how Yaoi writers make sex between two men sound SO painful.
It's like they have "OMG TEH GHEY BUTTSHECKS" on the brain, and they don't care about facts they just want to write about two men having rough sex.

Oh god, I wish I could unsee some of the stuff that I've read.

Mary sues..... Do I even need to go into detail about Mary frigging Sues?
I think it's better if I just stop here before I have an epic-level facedesk moment.

It's safe to say that anyone who's had sex realizes it isn't all clean sunshine and daisies. Everyone who knows has at least experienced the flopping wet spaghetti person that jiggles on top of them thinking they own the world and are the best at everything. This stamp needs to be put everywhere XD.

If people only wrote what they know, then the literature world would be full of - excuse me for saying so - boring crap.

Let people make their mistakes. Let them write what they want. It's not like anybody forces us to read bad smut. I just use my back button.

... I swear I didn't intend to sound like such a wet blanket. I was just saying that stamps like this is why people are reluctant to let their muse run loose and rampant and get the courage to write, why they're reluctant to make mistakes, when making mistakes and writing absolute crap is part of the process of becoming a better writer.

Okay, I have good stuff to say, honest! ... I really like the visual qualities of the stamp, such as the sheen, I really like that. And purple is the best colour ever.

(I swear I'm being honest and not just trying to make up for wet-blanketness!)

We'd hate to see some Mr. Garrisons in training (remember that South Park ep where he writes his novel?), and find out that the true ppl who have sex find out that their writing isn't as smutty as the experience they've had.

Unless it's transgender-related, it doesn't seem to apply to the stamp if the point is people writing about sex (actual intercourse) that they never had.:/

that they will /never/ have. in other words--sex that their anatomy physically prevents them from experiencing.

Schreibaby-Zephyr In reply to StJoan [2008-10-14 03:53:51 +0000 UTC]

Surgery doesn't make a person have sex. How will anatomy keep them from experiencing?

The-Yuri-Canon [2008-07-24 21:07:45 +0000 UTC]

This should go for everyone. I've read lesbian fiction written by 30 year old men that obviously have never had sex in their lives and it is disturbing and funny to read at time. It is the reason I steer clear of most online fiction and stick to reading novels from the library, not as likely I'll stumble across poorly done stories that way.
