Background: Dexter Blake was orphaned at the moment he was born, found bundled and crying at the steps of an orphanage. Though he had trouble connecting with others growing up, what with being an orphan and looked down upon. As a result, he found his only friends in books like fairy tales and novels, enthralled in the stories and adventures, as well as the worlds they opened up to. He was especially into the stories written by the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson. He was so enthralled by them, he wanted to write such a story someday. So he spent most of his time writing rough drafts and sent them to publishers. Though sadly, nothing was taken as they said the stories lacked something: talent. This kind of dashed his dreams in more ways than one.
At the age of sixteen, he still had yet to be adopted, and was more like an employee at the orphanage. His cooking and hard work ethic were full enough to earn him a place, though he wasn’t really paid; the only payment was living at the orphanage at all. Though his dream to writing a good story was still in him, even though he was limited with pater and his only smartphone. Though one day, whilst coming back from Central Park, something happened to him. While heading towards the train station to head home in Queens, a silver and green amulet suddenly smacked him on the side of his head, causing him to fall down comically. Getting himself back up, though missing the train, he found the amulet and wondering where it came from. The amulet started ominously chanting his name, which prompted the boy to pick it up and take it with him, even as the night train came by and took him on board. Falling asleep halfway there, a strange aura began to glow around him, and sucking him up in a pillar of violet light, and once it died down… he was gone.
When he finally came to, he groggily saw that he was in some kind of royal bedroom like you’d see in storybook illustrations. Though walking towards him, almost excited, was a pale and purple-haired beauty dressed like a princess, as she exclaimed that the summoning ritual worked. Trying to figure out where he was, the girl introduced herself as Raven Queens and that he was summoned to help her escape the Evil Queen Ravana… aka her mom. Freaking out, he was soon caught by the guards and brought before the Queen herself, with Raven being scolded by her own mother, and prepared to have the boy being turned into a Grimm; one of the monsters under her and others’ control, and was thrown into the dungeon.
In the dungeon, he had met with one Alistair, a Mage, who was shocked to discover the boy was from another world, let alone in possession of the Amulet of the Brothers: one of many Sacred Relic weapons forged by the Grimm Brothers. But before anything could be explained further, a giant Troll named Gnar smashed through the dungeon walls, as he broke Alistair out but asked to break Dexter out. Though sadly, Dexter is still frightened by the troll, though Alistair explained to him at the amulet chose him to protect their world alongside the other Grimmhunters: appointed warriors to fight off the impending Queen and other Dark Forces threatening their world, Enchantia. Which Dexter nearly fainted from all of this realization. But explanation would have to wait as they had to get out of there. But before they did, Dexter had to see Raven again in the attempt to send him back.
Sneaking his way back to her chambers, which he used a Grimm Knight’s armor to sneak in, he managed to face her again. Before he could demand her to send him back, he stopped as she was crying: something a villain in the story would never do. He calmed down, as he genuinely asked her gently on why he had been summoned by her, to which she asked to take her away from her mother. She explained that she never wanted to be a villain in the first place, that her heart wasn’t in such things like evil, hurting innocent people, and all her life was just being pressured into doing stuff that wasn’t her. Something of which he reflected and admitted he felt the same way. He then vowed he’d take her with him, to get as far from the Queen as possible, and took her hand to trust him, in which she smiled and did so.
As they were getting out of there, evading and running from the guards, they were immediately cornered by Gularg, the Dark Troll who killed the Amulet’s former owner, Hansworth. At that moment, the amulet started glowing, and before him, words appeared as he spoke them aloud, “For the Honor of Grimm, My Destiny is mine to Write”, and then suddenly, a suit of armor appeared on him along with a buster sword as well, leaving both him and Raven in complete amazement and shock. Deciding to retreat rather than fight him, Dexter grabbed Raven and jumped down into the moat below, both surviving and getting ashore as they ran for the Forbidden Forest, of which Dexter later realized as they traversed through and Raven mentioning it, though also making her confused as to how he didn’t know about it, to which he explains he was from another world. This surprised the Evil Queen’s Daughter and princess as she only intended to summon a Grimmhunter from nearby and never knew it was powerful enough to pluck someone from another world. Though putting it aside, both huddled together mostly to ensure each other didn’t freeze, but because both didn’t want to lose the other and get lost, for the Forbidden Forest was a den of strange and unusual dangers and creatures. Though fortunately, Alistair and Gnar had found the two, but to both of shock, the latter was the daughter of the Evil Queen Ravana, of which Alistair bluntly and scorn-stated that she was the daughter of the Evil Queen, of which Dexter defended she didn’t want that life, saying she was just a girl who wanted to write her own story than have others do it for her, and that she wanted to chose her own path. Though the argument was put aside, as Bularg had shown up, stating he was honestly unable to find them until he heard yelling, much to his mocking in a thanks to them.
He then proceeded to chase after the four, as they made their way to a bridge to try and hide, as the sun was slowly starting to rise. As Alistair and Gnar were preparing to open a Troll doorway, Dexter summoned the armor and sword yet again, and did his best to fend off the Dark Troll. However, Bularg’s experience, viciousness, and ruthlessness made him too much of a match for Dexter who had little to no combat experience. But he did manage to hold his own by dodging and evasiveness as it was a skill he developed to evade bullies and gangs, as well as using his cutlery skills to match Bularg’s swordsmanship, much to the Troll’s annoyance. However, he managed to seriously hurt Dexter enough to lose focus, as his armor was halfway gone, and Bularg was about to finish him off. Though in an emotionally distressed and angered state, Raven unleashed her powers, now awakened, she managed to blast a hole int eh bridge, sending light at the Troll, hurting him as Trolls could be killed by sunlight, causing him to back away, long enough for the door to open as they all made it through and closed before Bularg shouted he’d find them and take the Princess back to her mother.
Safely going through Trollmarket, Dexter and Raven got a new set of clothing to fit in as well as to avoid the fact he was from another world and her being the daughter of the Evil Queen, they made their way to the safely protected city of Fantalasia, which was the home of the Bros. Grimm Academy, the training ground and school of the Grimmhunters. Though a bit hesitant in the idea, but with encouragement from Alistair, and more from Raven, as well as wanting Raven to have the chance to leave the Evil path made for her, Dexter agreed to enroll so long as Raven did with him as well.
Now in a new life, the young man who wanted to write his own story had been given the chance to do so. In writing his own tale as a hero as he trains to master the Amulet and his weapon, as well as to help his friend to write her own destiny, along with others wanting to forge their paths, making him on the path to becoming the ultimate Grimmhunter.
Personality: At the start of the series, Dexter was shown being shy, clumsy, quiet, and tentative. He is friendly, but unlike many of the heroes he grew up in reading, he is not very suave or charismatic. At times, he has a tendency to compare himself with the said heroes, like Prince Charming or the Woodsman. Ironically, Dexter is jealous of Chad Charming’s ability to impress any girl, unaware that he himself possesses an enchanted gaze that makes girls swoon; but also, that Chad is rather just charming, that’s all he has with being the prince. Unlike Chad Charming, however, he has the capacity to be a hero.
Back in his world, he’s like the caretaker around the orphanage, cooking meals for himself, which basically shows how he learned how to cook on his own. Despite it being the caretaker's job to take care of him and the others, he likes taking care of them because of how much joy the kids have in eating his meals rather than the slop the orphanage cafeteria gives out. He is also shown to have a reputation for being an all-around swell guy, though it is implied this is just to get people to like him.
He also gets frustrated when things go a little topsy turvy for him to handle. For instance, when he found out that the one that summoned him was the daughter of the Evil Queen of the Snow White story, and that she wanted to be a good person at heart.
Dexter can get nervous often, as he didn't want to get himself involve in something dangerous, let alone accept his role as a Grimmhunter, having never been in a fight before, let alone ask a girl to a dance before. However, when he perseveres and tries, despite his fear, he can succeed in his job which proves how brave and hard-working he really is. After getting used to being a Grimmhunter, he was braver than ever, such as fighting against Gularg, Witches, Deathless Warriors, and even the Horn King and the Evil Queen, Ravana. Dexter was also reluctant to kill people as part of his job, but when he started gaining more self-defense instincts, he became somewhat brave enough to do it.
Dexter is very overprotective of his loved ones, to the points where he might be considered incompetent. To keep his loved ones safe, like his friends, he will often try to keep them out of a fight and finish it alone, even though it usually does more harm than good. Another sign of his overprotectiveness is that he's willing to lie to his friends, even Raven, to keep them from worrying about him. Dexter kept it a secret, but he didn't keep it hidden because Raven was fully aware of his lies and kept demanding him to tell the truth, but he kept avoiding or changing the subject to protect her, despite it only straining their relationship even further and putting Raven in danger.
He's definitely willing to keep lying for his loved ones' safety no matter what the consequences are, even when they spoil his "good boy" reputation toward the people he knows like his teachers, Raven, and especially his friends. Despite being overprotective and a little bumbling, he knows when he can't accomplish things without help from his team. It's also something he's been learning to overcome, particularly after his dream sequence from one of the Amulet’s former users, Unkar.
Dexter is also a bit of the jealous type since he hated it when Chad Charming was flirting with Raven as she giggled at his witty comments (though he learned later on it was a mock laugh as she didn’t want to hurt his ego).
When Merlin had Dexter fully transform into what the Amulet’s true battle form, he was reluctant because he feared he would lose half of his humanity forever and couldn’t change back. After a little consideration and reflections on all he had been through, he willingly turned himself into the Hybrid form. Initially, Dexter enjoyed his new feral state and abilities, but then he became depressed when he found out that when he fought he enjoyed hurting others as the Amulet pushed his aggression and violent levels almost to the point of madness. He felt as if he could never be with his loved ones again and was to remain a monster forever. He was then reminded by his loved ones that he could still have an exciting life, despite it no longer being a normal one. Though he was able to change back, he was still happy that he could feel the warmth of others as he held their hands.
As for his social life, mostly involving the opposite sex, he has horrible luck. At least back in his old world. While at Bros. Grimm Academy, he is still somewhat of a loser, though has grown better at socializing. He's also very caring, "putting his nose into other people's business" as he helped Raven, Scarlett, Goldie, and even Toby overcome their fears, doubts, and hatred of their mournful pasts and failures. Due to this, he gained strong friendship from his comrades and affection from most girls of his group. He is, however, oblivious to the feelings of the girls around him (save for Raven after his confession), often believing they are simply teasing him. This is due to his trauma with Fayebell, Maleficent’s daughter. He has a habit of not forgiving himself if he does something wrong: always saying sorry if said thing is mentioned, and showing an expression of pain and regret.
After his murder by Faybelle, Dexter had developed a fear of admitting his feelings to the girls, as he thought it would cause them to turn their backs on him. He acknowledged that this would never happen, but it was still an intense fear. However, later on, that fear had been overcome. Even with the knowledge that the girls do have romantic affection for him, he still has problems acknowledging some of their ongoing rivalries, an example being who gets to sit or lay on his lap.
Skills/Abilities
Powers
· Above Average Physical Condition: Dexter, despite being a normal human, is slightly stronger and more durable than an average teenager. Thanks to the Amulet of Grimm, he has been seen taking hits that would have almost certainly broken an ordinary person's bones, as well as withstanding Gularg's crushing grip. Dexter has even withstood a high-altitude lightning strike, which was sufficient enough to kill a Stalkling and would have severely injured, if not killed, an ordinary human. Even before training, Alistair comments that Dexter has excellent reflexes as he was able to avoid a blade from the ground by quickly rolling and running away, despite being in (extreme) close range. Though there are those that can still hurt him, such as Fayebelle able to mortally wound him enough to nearly kill him.
· Magic Resistance: For some reason, Dex can't be affected by low-level magic: a puzzling mystery to be said but very handy.
· Enhanced Healing: Due to his training as a hero, Dex has very fast recuperative powers. This allows him to completely recover from injuries, that would take normal humans days just to regain consciousness from, in mere moments.
o Magical Weaponry Summoning: After being chosen by the Amulet of Grimm, Dexter is able to summon the Sword Destiny and his armor by chanting " For the Honor of Grimm, My Destiny is mine to Write!" Dexter is able to manipulate his armor in any way he desires, such as willing his sword to return to his hand in combat or switching hands, as well as summoning one of the alternate weapons provided by the armor, such as:
o Boomerang Glaives: A pair of dual Glaive daggers that can also combine to form a boomerang weapon.
o Shield: Mounted on the left arm, it can change its size from a small battle shield to a paladin-sized shield.
o Crossbow: Mounted on the right arm, it allows its user to fire a barrage of energy arrows at its intended target. The arrows can also be used to help in climbing when the Glaives are not in use.
o Wings: Energy-based constructs, the wings allow its user to fly like a griffon or a dragon. They also word as shields to encompass the user or those around him/her. On occasion, they can also be used as an extra pair of hands. Sometimes, he is shown activating the amulet without speaking the incantation. He can also control his boomerang glaives with his will, open and close his shield, fire his crossbow without using a trigger, controlling his wings as if they were second arms, and control his helmet into opening or closing for protection.
· The Armor also enables him to use the following skills, but later on, he can access these without the armor fully activated:
· Eraser Shift: A unique power that Dex seemed to have inherited from the Amulet, and was first perceived as being unique to him. This lets him send anything like physical and magic attacks to the Zero Dimension, in other words, it is reduced to nothingness and eliminates. In order to use it, Dex needs perfect spiritual balance. Alistair explained that the complete elimination caused by the Eraser Shift is the result of the invocation severing its particular core.
· Extinction Blade: This is a variant of Eraser Shift that Vexx taught him, which focuses on unleashing the eliminating power of Eraser Shift.
· Eraser Shift Annihilation: Dex's final trump card he used in his the battle with the master of the Ruin, the Dollmaker. It works by combining Eraser Shift and Extinction Blade, unleashing a torrent of destructive energy, which simply destroys everything.
Skills
· Intelligence: Reading a lot gives you booksmarts, and for Dexter that's no exaggeration. He even has knowledge of all the stories that Enchantia's residence are the basis for in his world. Though even at times, some stuff that's not important but becomes important, he knows, like when he taught Toby Arc Welding.
· Cooking: Because of his skills learned while working at the orphanage, Dexter can make a decent meal for any situation. Whether it’s snacks for the mission on go, an emergency cafeteria for starving refugees, or just a nice dinner for all his friends.
· Swordsmanship: After training with Drake, Dexter is an accomplished swordsman, able to hold off Nomura, the Ripper, Mulan, and even Gularg himself. Dexter's fighting style is somewhat chaotic, but he uses his agility to outsmart larger and stronger foes and get behind their guard. Dexter's proficiency has extended beyond Daylight as well, as he is able to parry Agnor Rhot's attacks with his newly discovered boomerang daggers, Shield, Wings, and even hold off Nomura using a frying pan in his apartment.
· Martial Artist: Training alongside Mulan and instructed by Huan and Drake, he has become a rather improvised and unique fighter. While he relies on his sword for most attacks, Dexter has been shown to improvise punches and kicks in combat and was even seen knocking out Chad Charming with one punch, though he admits that was by accident and he was wanting to just hold back.
· Tactician: As the de facto leader of his Grimmhunters group, GRIMM, Dexter is usually the one who comes up with the group's strategies. Although his plans have been foiled, such as when Fayebelle anticipated his attempt to send Toby, Alistair, and Gnar into her apartment, Dexter has a knack for improvising situations to complete his missions.
· Compassion: Both Alistair and Raven have mentioned Dexter's greatest strength is his humanity and love for others, no matter the cost. It’s something that Chad Charming and the rather favored, yet disappointing, Grimmhunter Heroes lack as their fame have gone to their heads. It has allowed him to inspire others to find greatness in themselves and come to his aid whenever possible. Even some of his enemies have been inspired by his sense of honor, like Nomura. Even after unlocking the Battle Form of the Amulet and at times becoming a Hybrid, it appears that this trait has not diminished at all. He reminds Agnor Rhot of the hero he used to be before he became Ravana's slave, which convinced him to turn against her and give the Grimmhunters the opening they need to seal her away in her mirror for good.
· Smoldering Intensity: A bit unknown of a skill to him, Dexter somehow has a smolder gaze that rivals, or rather surpasses Chad Charming’s smolder. He doesn’t really know how to control it, and for a moment while using blanks out, like he was staring into space. Though admittingly, the girls that are in his group, particularly his love interests, admit they get the good shivers when he does this… though Raven and Scarlett, being the more stubborn and flustered, punch him and warn him not to do it, even though he honestly doesn’t know how to control it.
Equipment
· Outfits
· Amulet of Grimm: One of the ancient weapons forged by the first Bros. Grimm to safeguard the world, it is one of the oldest and most important of them all. It is so unique because unlike those who choose what weapon to wield, it choses who wields it instead. By chanting "For the Honor of Grimm, My Destiny is mine to Write!" Dexter is encased himself in a modern-yet-medieval knight's armor, complete with the Sword Destiny. The sword is harmful to Grimms, Dark Witches, ogres, goblins, spooks, evil sorcerers trolls, vaporizing them on contact and blinding them with its presence. The amulet itself lets Dexter translate Trollish, Pixie, Fairy (when they're small), and various other languages into English and vice versa, and it will return to Dex if separated, as seen when he tries to dispose of it early on and later when it escaped the clutches of Maleficent, Ravana, and Gularg. The amulet can be opened and upgraded with special stones, including the Trinity Stones, the Eye of Guumar, the Eye of Agnor Rhot, and many other gemstones with hidden powers. It unlocks the following weaponry for him:
o Boomerang Glaive
o Battle Shield
o Arm-Mounted Crossbow
o Wings
· Donner: A special gun that Toby had forged for him. Unlike most normal guns from his world that fire off bullets, this gun fires off charged bullets of magic that draws its power from Dexter’s newfound mana forged from the Amulet itself. This acts as a secondary weapon for his Grimmhunter status when the Amulet times out at first when he’s getting used to it.
· Hover Bike: The Hover bike was given to him as a gift by Alistair, as they both worked together to assemble it together, along with Goldie and her brother, Kubbs. It becomes his primary form of transportation and seats two, with Toby and Raven being its most common passengers.
· Smartphone: Despite being from his world, his smartphone seems to work rather well, even with the more magically-empowered or magically advanced smartmirrors, which is a mirror-visage of a smartphone. It still holds all the functions from his old world, including the music he downloaded and youtube videos from his world.
