Description This is another Part 1 Collab, ~zoanoid had just completed a wonderful airbrushing of a Lion and Hummingbird, but felt he needed a better background for his next piece, a pair of eagles fighting, so, upon approaching me, this is what I came up with. I hope it can be used as-is for a wallpaper as well as with additional objects, but I do feel honoured my work can be used in this way. Good luck to him

There are two larger versions and (once approval is made), prints up to and including 24x16 sizes available.

1920x1440 [link]
1600x1200 [link]

The technical bits:
Two terrains have been downloaded in NED data format, converted by 3DEM, combined in Terragen to make one more interesting terrain, pushed through World Machine to add Thermal, rain and river erosion, then reimported to Terragen for texture additions and render, then out to Photoshop for colour correction and triangulation removal.

Hope you all enjoy my work

Shadows look pretty un-realistic - the first thing I would note if you were going for realism. The clouds are pretty...weird, but I've yet to see anyone master those anyway. Nice image.

I enjoy all these new places you create. You compose them all very well. The grassy hills to the right is my favorite part. I don't know much about terregen so technically I can't comment - I scenery & this is a place I would enjoy visiting! I look forward to seeing the next part of the collab

Very nice...well done on this piece. The peaks could use a little bit of work with the textures...I mean the base of the peaks I mean, where the gray is, but damn fine job. Love it.

Lovely composition, stotty.

If I were to pick, I'd ask for a bit more variation in texture to the rock faces, maybe slightly less shadow at the far left.

Oh, and a bit of noise thrown in for good measure

very nice work... excellent terrain can't see any triangulation maybe the mountains could be more rough... they look so soft now. the only thing i miss there is water... maybe a small lake or something. the sky could be more dramatic... and the textures... nearly perfect... but the mountains ...looks like they're just gray and white. and i have to agree with someone who has commented here... i miss some sort of emotion that is so typical for your works. - anyhow a special TG pic

Ah Stotty, not my idea of a good terragen piece. Im sure it took some time to make but the mountains to hill transition looks just too fake. And unlike your other pieces, I don't feel any emotion being conveyed through this piece.

oooooohhhh.. I really like this one... Love the rolling hills

sixwings [2002-10-02 04:41:06 +0000 UTC]

Really like this - it will be a great background for eagles fighting for sure

A couple of things though...

Seems that the shadow lightness may actually be too dark in this one. Although setting the shadows dark makes for some nice contrast, sometimes it hurts the realism. Especially in the lower left corner and in the other green areas.

The rock textures on the mountains don't seem varied enough and looks a little too smooth. Maybe scale it larger? Don't know - not very good with surface scaling myself.

BTW
I don't see the triangulation that Aleks and Fusionx sees in this, unless they are talking about the basic triangle shape that most mountains have.

I do love the terrain, and the whole thing has a nice majestic feel to it, which is fitting for such majestic birds I guess

The clouds, although not as dramatic as most of your other pieces, are very realistic IMO because there are two types of clouds in the same sky - not sure how you pulled that one off, but nature does it all the time

Great Job overall as usuall

nice idea, I know you can do way better then this though m8

The brown-ish colours do not go well with the snow and grass (Wich by the way look great) I think you could work on the bump settings as well.
Sky could be more detailed, keep on trying Stotty, we're all watching

This is very nice work as usual! That is alot of steps to go through but worth it. The thing I see right off is the grass in the distance. I believe it could use a bit more texturing to match the grass and snow in the foreground. It looks too plain, so to speak. Very beautiful scene though. You have inspired me to go back and try another Picture just when I was giving up on Terragen. Great work!

I love the way you set up the scene, very beautiful and realistic. The textures in the front are just fine to me, although the mountains in the back are too smooth. I think I just sounded like a stuck record repeating what others said lol

I especially like the snow and the soft clouds. Good work

Very beautifull scene. I can really image two eagles fighting in the sky over there

I think there are some odd shadows in this one though -- especially near the bottom left and the bottom left hill -- and the texturing up close looks a little ruff, but other then that there is really very little to comment on. It just is another one of your great renders

It looks great but would it look otherwise coming from you

Now to pick at it.....the textures are great, but the terrain looks too smooth...some more chunkies might look good...also some more textures on the bottem of the mountains would look good. Other than that......top notch work mate
