Description A little more of stottys Terragen art for you to step into.

I remember a comment from bren [link] who said she wanted to go skinny dipping in the Crystal Waters scene, but the water looked so cold for that - so here you are bren, a nice warm and secluded spot

This is an entire rework of the ClearLake V1 scene.

Comments help me get better, and are appreciated as always

These colors look almost unearthly. That water almost looks like it was painted! The mountain looks a little too eroded and soft though.

Looks warm and secluded indeed, though it looks quite humid too (probably because of the haze). Reminds me of Tulum, which was a nightmare for me as it was hot all day and night and it really tired me out...
I'm not all that sure about the apparant haze in the sky. It doesn't really look like it belongs to such a dry and barren setting, looks way to humid to me

I quite like how the scene looks, though I think the greenish texture would have looked better had it been grass. Would have looked more fresh, not so hot and damp. But I guess that's just me
One thing that's bothering me a bit though, are the clouds in this scene. They seem to hang a little low. Plus they look dark and all, IMO doesn't really fit with the sky.

Other then that, I really like this render, even though the combination between the setting and environment seems a little odd to me. Good work

First off: I think novispoon's comment was right on the money.

Also - I can't believe I'm saying this to YOU - but the sand right where the water meets the land needs a wet line.

I'm not sure if you are going for a sureal look here or for realism.
If it is for realism then I think the color of the sand is way too red/orange to be real. But the texturing on the sand is great
If, however, you are going for sureal... the colors really don't compliment each other well.

Regardless I think that the greens of the plants don't seem to look real because of the color of them - just looks odd. Also the water looks very dull.

I love the layout overall of the surfaces with the greens on the flatter parts of the mountains and how the sand ends at a certain point then starts the dirt...
Very nice

As far as smoothness and bumpiness of textures go - I think you did very nicely with them - a lot of that stuff is preferrence I guess.

This one looks great! Has a dry, arid feel to it, except it looks like there's vegetation on the mountains which takes away from the desert like feel.

I'm starting to believe that you are from Mars. Your works remind me the red planet. I don't know if Mars is an inspiration for you, but your "paintings" are excellent. I really like the dark water.

The fall/earth tone colors in this evoke a feeling of warmth, both with the natural surroundings and on initial viewing. I like the contrasts of color and the textures you managed to render. This is very tranquil, a place I'd like to daydream in, and reflect on life.

First off let me say that this piece is nothing short of amazing! Love the groove of this one, very cool.

The texturing on the mountain sides *does* seem a bit smooth (points to dark-illusion*'s statement. Great oworik otherwise, the beach is nicely done as well as the grass and waves (loving that transparency!!)

Killer work man, keep it up!

This will probably be a shorter comment than I usually give (thought I'd give you a break)

The surf looks great, as does the water, although I think you need some more layers to the shoreline. . .like. . .more of a gradual darkening. . and even darker than you have it now.
The sky is nice, if a little flat
Lighting and POV, as always, look great.

The only thing that is letting you down on this one (*gasp* dare I say it?) is you texturing in my oppinion
The front textures seem pretty computer generated. . .I mean. . .still pretty good, but not what I'm used to from your 'close to camera' textures. This moss/grass stuff that's growing on the rocks seems completely bizzare to me. . .almost like it was a Vue or Bryce texture job. . .and it's not very convincing. The perspective doesn't help me distinguish it from some heavy moss, or a strangely placed rain forest
Lastly, the terrain looks good. . .not your best, but good. . .maybe it's a little smoother than it could be

hmmm not worthy of a favorite addition im sorry to say, although i think it could be, the water does look a fraction pixelated and i also think the sky needs a bit of work...i dunno if i pick this up more because im on a digital monitor or what...but yeh, i think more exaggerated wet look of sand would go down nice als0o

love the scene and the textures, (could use a bit more bumpiness) and also love how you have captured it

Its hard to come up with any intelligent critiques, because you consistantly put out increadible works of art. It's amazing what you've done with this programme.

Having said that, I have a nice nit-picky critique for ya. I find that your pieces often have that redish haze. Looks great, don't get me wrong... but I dunno. I guess I just want to see something more lush more often.

The land and sky have a very desert fell to it so i'm guessing the water is like an oasis. The shorelins is good but the waves lok wierd.

I'm not sure of one thing though - the beach textures don't really seem just right. I'm not sure what, but it looks much too dry to be that close to water.

i do really like this piece, jsut as most of the other comments had said, i especially like the sky for somereason, it just fits, anyways, and texture looks prett good, but i don't really care for the mountain texture, and something bout the surf looks a little wierd, its like its drawn on the water almost(irealise its not, not tryin to say anything) it kinda gives me the perspective that the water is fairly close to the camera, yet the surf is so flat, just looks kinda wierd to me, still a great peice though, i love the colors also

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

dark-illusion [2002-08-22 20:40:25 +0000 UTC]

ah yes another great peice from stotty. but i have a few things to say about this one
usually ur the best when it comes to texturing, but it seems a little shaken here hehe (its still very good tho). ok first the mountain textures seem too smooth, and with a hot atmosphere, u'd expect the mountains to be cracked and a bit more bumpy. second, the wet shorline texture, it looks very well done in the background, but the foreground one seems a bit too far back, and with the water like that, i dont think it'll reach that far back. Third, last and least (this is only a small problem...maybe even personal preference) but the texture right below the grass and above the shoreline seems a bit sharp, it would help to increase fuzziness on both ends of the restraint.
other than that the rest is done superbly, the sky looks very nice, as does the grass texture. the water looks good with that transparency, but the surf seems a bit pixilated, maybe a blur in PS might help
very nice done congrates STOTTY

nice work as always mister teacher theres a bit of banding in the sky nice texture work but as had been said they do look a little smooth part from that im enjoying the scene

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

kevinwoodPHOTO [2002-08-22 19:48:12 +0000 UTC]

Overall a delightful scene.. the thumbnail is a bit more promising that the full size .. and the only reason I say that is because some of the textures on the mountain seem too .. smooth and somewhat computer generated... but the texturing you did up front is awesome .. as well as the shoreline .. It nicely sinks into the lake .. though its a shame the transparency doesn't go any further and the shore drops off so quickly ..

The sky in this is very nicely done .. perhaps a bit more red in there?

The water is nice, though for some reason it seems very pixelated .. not exactly sure why that happened.

Overall its a wonderful scene mate .. a few things here and there to fix up, but still, another beautiful piece

The texturing on this piece is amazing... I love it and I can't think any major critiques though if I had to be picky I would say that some of the clouds looks too black ... tho the sky has a nice look, the dark clouds don't have the realism as the rest of the piece. Great work overall ... !!!
