Well....I usually like to give things a try, before I say whether I like it or not. Being a fan of the original story, I'll probably give this a shot, but I'm sure it can't be that bad!

It's hilarious because in the book Basil is like the only person who doesn't get any.

I really don't want to watch that film. It's going to make me cry. I know I will at some point though.

I know, that made me laugh too :v I'm guessing the screenplay writer felt sorry for him or something.

I have the same thing :c I'll just torrent it or something. They're not getting any of my money.

You've got to feel sorry for Basil. At the same time his predicament is a hilarious. Even Henry Wotton's sister gets some, but Basil entirely fails.

I think I'll join you on that. If it does make me cry because of its crapness I want to do it at home, not in the cinema with my Ben-Barnes-adoring friends. And I certainly don't want to pay to do it.

There's a German transfer student in my French class named Dorian and I am determined to be his friend, and find out if he likes Kraftwerk.

Ha, usually only one factor makes me want to watch a movie; it seems that way with a lot of people.

WELL. We'll do it like this: find a streaming video of it, find the infamous scene, watch it, close the window. Minimal damage to our literary decency!

I must look into this mag...

I'm very conflicted..... I mean, it's going to be bloody horrible and I'll want to kill myself after... but..... Basil's sucking Dorian off.

tiamatrouge [2009-09-13 18:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Since my name is Basil, I was initially a bit disturbed, until I remembered that the artist in Dorian Grey is ALSO named Basil. Thus, the feeling of surprise went away to be replaced with a feeling of "....Wait, I did NOT read that....Yes, I did....oh my god...."

StrangeWeirdo In reply to tiamatrouge [2009-09-13 20:28:19 +0000 UTC]

Haha, good lord, that must've been a bit of a double-take moment :v
I was confused and bewildered when I first read it. Triple-checked, at least, then drew a comic about the experience. I'm such a nerd.

tiamatrouge In reply to StrangeWeirdo [2009-09-14 19:29:36 +0000 UTC]

The horror's of being named Basil.

I can't believe that's actually in the film....

This brings back memories of the Lit teacher at my Catholic high school turning red and insisting that Dorian and Basil ARE NOT GAY!!1!

StrangeWeirdo In reply to swyvemylife [2009-09-13 20:23:49 +0000 UTC]

Of course not, they just happen to be two upper-class Victorian guys, one of whom adores the other's beauty and falls into the deepest despair when he dislikes the painting and goes off with another dude. No homo.

Rainbow-Marbles [2009-09-13 15:56:43 +0000 UTC]

Uh. Even if the critics said it was horrible and not worth it at all, I'd go see it. When there's a movie I want to see, I have to see it for myself before accepting to judge it.

*Giggle* To allow Basil to suck him off? Really, now. I don't really remember that from the book XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StrangeWeirdo In reply to Rainbow-Marbles [2009-09-13 20:22:44 +0000 UTC]

I'll probably end up seeing it even though I don't want to pay for it, but just judging by the cast, feeling of the film, trailer and summary I don't like what it's looking like one bit.

Haha, I did a spit-take when I read that : B UHHH I THINK I WOULD'VE REMEMBERED THIS, MOVIE

Rainbow-Marbles In reply to StrangeWeirdo [2009-09-14 00:47:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... It'll probably end up disappointing, but meh...

Yeah, me too XD There were maybe some very subtle hints, but nothing that explicit for sure XD

I laughed when I read in the original version Basil said 'I've never actually loved a woman' at one point (confronting Dorian before he gets
murdered) but Oscar's editor was like 'UH I DON'T THINK SO GIRL'

Haha. WOW. I saw the ads while over in Scotland. *slits wrists* I pray to the great gods it isn't even released in America. I just know there would be teenaged girls running around with bags and keychains, proudly bareing the glittery name of Dorian Gray.

Just you watch.

When I was in London they had it plastered all over the buses and things and I felt like kicking them.
Oh god, that's actually one of the first thoughts I had. If I start seeing the novel being sold everywhere with the cover being the film's poster I'll have a nervous breakdown.

I think I may have been so horrified, my reaction time was delayed, because for the longest time, all I could think was, "Is he turning into butterflys?"

Intercept it and burn it :c they made it some sort of sexed-up action film. Oscar's spinning in his grave fast enough to power Paris for a month, I reckon.
On the other hand, they did take Basil and Dorian's relationship to the point Oscar probably wanted to take it but that's still not enough to make up for the rest :c

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StrangeWeirdo In reply to AmericoneDream [2009-09-13 20:05:49 +0000 UTC]

I once took it to school and read it a bit before class and it got the teacher to comment 'Attitude? That's what we're seeing around here, HEH' and then he told me to stop reading. Then he stole it from me. And I'll make a comic about the conclusion because it was pretty awesome.

I'm conflicted because on one hand it sounds like such a shitty movie but on the other... Basil/Dorian is my lit!OTP ;A;

AmericoneDream In reply to StrangeWeirdo [2009-09-14 02:17:02 +0000 UTC]

Props to your teacher for tying in the title with his comment but it's never cool when teachers take your stuff. I'll bet they've got drawers full of candy and yo-yos. Oh, I would like to hear the exciting conclusion.
I say see it and when the hot blowjobs are over with you gtfo.

StrangeWeirdo In reply to AmericoneDream [2009-09-14 11:20:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha, me reading comics through the film, watching the probably 30-second long blowjob scene and standing up shotuing 'WELP, THAT'S THE INTERESTING BIT OVER' would be a pretty good idea. I'll think about it!

AmericoneDream In reply to StrangeWeirdo [2009-09-15 02:29:20 +0000 UTC]

Do it. I'll bet a bunch of people will follow you out just because it was probably the only reason they went to see it anyway.
