Hello. I have Java 8 but after knowing that the shimejis I have in my computer need Java 6 to work, I'm not too sure whether to uninstall my current version or not since I'm learning software engineering at university with NetBeans, which is the program that I use for programming that uses Java 8. So if I uninstall Java 8, will it affect my NetBean? Do I have to reinstall the app again in order to install Java 6?

Xuro2DaLusovee ... Since I don’t know much about computers, but can you have both the 64but and 32bit version of java installed at the same time? It took me awhile to figure it out. Also try just downloading the following shimeji and see if it’ll work.
www.deviantart.com/lunaticmao/…
That was the first shimeji that I tried first to make sure that I can even get shimejis to work.

So, I did what you told, I uninstalled all Java versions I had and installed only the Java 6 32-bit one, something different happened... With the Shimeji that I'm trying to work out the Java 6 Japanese pop up, now it doesn't pop up anymore? Now when I try to open the .exe nothing happens, same goes with the .jar, I did the same with with the .jar going to "Open with..." and went with that option, nothing.
Thing is, people have these problems with SOME Shimeji's (well for me), cause not all Shimeji's have this Java 6 Japanese to pop up. So for me, I can't use Shimeji's that have this pop up, only Shimeji's that work fine and do not have this problem. But, what do I do...? There's some Shimeji's I really want to use but I just can't because of this.

holosexual ... apologies for the late reply (over a year and a few months later). I simply haven’t logged into deviantart until today. If some of the Shimejis work, duplicate the Shimeji folder that actually works. Let’s hypothetically call it Shimejiworks1. Duplicate Shimejiworks1 folder and rename it ShimejiworksCOPY.
Then copy and paste all the images from the shimejidoesNOTwork2 folder into the ShimejiworksCOPY, but make sure the image file names stays the same in the ShimejiworksCOPY folder.
Example:
ShimejiworksCOPY folder
image1.png, image2.png, image3.png
ShimejidoesNOTwork2 folder
img1.png, img2.png, img3.png
The easiest thing to do might be to rename all the images in the ShimejidoesNOTwork2 folder to the same as the ShimejiworksCOPY folder, then replace the picture files.
img1.png rename to image1.png
img2.png rename to image2.png
img3.png rename to image3.png
Move the image files from ShimejidoesNOTwork2 to ShimejiworksCOPY folder.

How many custom image (img) files do you have, and how many original image (img) files does the working shimeji folder have?
Try this.
1. Copy and paste the shimeji folder (folder 1) that works onto your computer's desktop (this is a "test" folder). Do NOT delete the original shimeji folder that works. You will need the original in case anything happens to the "test" folder.
2. Create a second folder (folder 2) on your desktop specifically for your custom images, name the folder anything you want (i.e. custom shimeji)
3. Open folder 1 (test folder) and locate all the image files.
4. Open folder 2 and locate all the image files.
5. Rename all folder 2's image file name exactly as those image files in folder 1.
6. Then, delete all image files in folder 1.
7. Copy all images from folder 2 and paste into the empty folder 1 image file location.
8. Run the shimeji application, and hopefully all your customize created shimeji should run.
Please report back and let me know if it works.

Sorry for the delayed response. I usually get a notification in my email, but didn't for some reason. Triple checking and it was the 32 bit version of Java 6 and not 64 bit? If that doesn't work. Try uninstalling all Java bit versions and reinstalling the 32 bit.

i give up on getting shimejis.. it's impossible. I get a japanese message saying to get java 6,even though i have it,and the .jar file will only open with Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.

First of all, are you on Windows 10 or Windows 7?
Don't give up yet. Just double checking. You've gone through the exact steps outlined in my instructions, and you've also downloaded the exact 32 bit Java 6 file (don't download the 64 bit Java 6 file)?
filehippo.com/download_jre/tec…
Secondly, right click on the .jar file, if you don't see Java 6, select "choose default program" >> browse >>
Try that first.

Try doing the following two things:
(PART A) Uninstall all the Java's that you've installed on your computer Windows 7.
(PART B) Download the following Shimeji's file (this is the very first shimeji that worked for me)
lunaticmao.deviantart.com/art/…
===========================================
===========================================
===========================================
===========================================
(PART A)
UNINSTALL ALL PREVIOUS JAVA VERSIONS AND REINSTALL JAVA 6 32-bit
Control Panel >> Uninstall Java 8 (if you still have this installed)
Control Panel >> Uninstall Java 6 (if you also installed this)
Control Panel >> Uninstall any other Java that you have
Redownload Java 6 (32 bit) from this link:
filehippo.com/download_jre/tec…
jre-6u45-windows-i586.exe (Java 6 32-bit)
It absolutely must be 32 bit Java 6 because the original creators for
Shimeji's programmed them to work with the 32-bit verion.
Find the green download rectangle bar, make sure you click on the white drop down triangle. It'll have both versions of Java 6 ... 64 bit (16.55 MB) and 32 bit (16.30 MB). Only click on the 32 bit version (16.30 MB). If you don't click on the white triangle, you're basically only downloading 64 version.
Make sure the Java file that you downloaded is the following file:
jre-6u45-windows-i586.exe
Make sure to run a virustotal.com scan of that file.
www.virustotal.com/
Double click on jre-6u45-windows-i586.exe and install the file.
Once you install this Java 6 32-bit file. Don't worry about it anymore. Next open the Shimeji folder (below)
===========================================
===========================================
===========================================
===========================================
(PART B)
DOWNLOAD, UNZIP the following Shimeji file
Download the following Shimeji's file (this is very first shimeji that worked for me)
lunaticmao.deviantart.com/art/…
1. After you have successfully installed Java 6 32-bit (from the above instructions of PART A), and once you have this Shimeji file unzipped. Open the folder and locate the .jar file.
2. Double click on the .jar file. (This should automatically bring up the Shimeji (wait maybe 5 to 10 seconds).
3. If double clicking doesn't work. Right click and open using that Java binary thingy selection option.
Let's see if any of this works first.

I'll keep that in mind. Good to know. I'm probably not going to test it out because my Java 6 works as intended. But very much appreciate that you decided to make a comment on an alternative possible fix. Thanks.

I tried to do all the things you did, and I followed the steps but my own shimeji is not showing up...
Do you maybe have an idea what the issue may be?

Let's see if we could solve it. Download and test out these two Shimeji's... I'm suggesting these because these are the first two shimeji's that I first tested and worked. And you have a Windows (7? 8? 10?) machine? As long as we can find one shimeji to work, then we should be able to get all other shimeji's to work.

Very cool.
Basically if you ever come across another shimeji that happens to not work, in order to get it to work, all you will need to do is duplicate the entire folder of one Shimeji that works and rename the second folder to something else.
Then, copy all the images (shime1.png shime2.png shime3.png etc.) from the non-working shimeji folder and paste them into that duplicate second folder's image. It's going to ask you if you want to replace the duplicate second folder's images and you say yes. Open the .jar file in the second duplicate folder and that should get the Shimeji to work.
