Also, I'd go with purple. Not only does it look good on the Goblin King, but to me, it speaks volume of his personality. From what I've seen, purple has been the color of villains, which was what he (sorta) was and, historically speaking, it was the color of royalty. Hence, Goblin King.

Well, Labyrinth was a place of warmer colors. The warmer tones make more sense.

I think I like the blue background, he stands out more.

blue makes him pop more. it draws attention to -him-. the purple is nice too, and your shade hues seem to compliment it, but to me it distracts from him. i like looking at the blue one better. but maybe i just like blue better than pruple haha.

The one on the right looks more mystical and magical in my opinion. The colours looks richer too, its more stylish.
However, I do like how the blue goes with the orb... wait a second! What if you do a delicate gradient, where most of the colour will be purple, and below there will be some blue as well? (right where his legs start)

Purple. Purple denotes mystery and magic to me, the perfect color for someone like Jareth.

Purple. It emphasis the warmth of the picture. The blue one seems too cold.
Although, I can say the blue compliments the stars nicely. I just prefer the warmth of the purple one. I feels like it captures the mood so much better. It looks really nice with the shadows as well.
