Actually, it just occurred to me while glancing back at the previous chapters that it wasn't actually Mias's intention to kidnap Elle at first.
It was alluded with the bell and her grandfather's ashes that Elle is somehow connected to this world of magic by her grandpa, and Mias needs her for some reason (also probably tied to her grandpa). But, he wasn't planning on taking her. His original plan was to make a magic duplicate of her and take that one--but Elle accidentally killed the duplicate and you can't make more than one.
That's why Mias took her as a last resort in desperation--and also why he was adamant about telling the Green Man and Ledbury that she was the real one, not a duplicate.
Makes me wonder, actually, if Elle's father was a Green Man and that's why the Green Man and Ledbury are trying to take her? Hmmm... Just speculation at this point.

Elle didn't kill her clone? Mias that that the clone (always the right one) dies anyway.
He wanted to leave something so she don't have to worry about her family which would worry about Elle's whereabouts.
So he actually wanted to take her into his world. And he probably hoped for more cooperation and understanding.

She did, though mistakenly so--when they saw each other. Mias told her not to open her eyes because he wanted at least one of them to live / remain in the world--but both Elles looked and the shock of seeing another "self" startled the newly born clone and it dies shortly after. When Mias explains that the one on the right always dies, he doesn't mean that the one on the right is doomed to die shortly after birth. He meant that once they see one another, it's always the one on the right that ends up dying (which is why he makes a point of talking to the one on the left while explaining this). If the two Elles hadn't seen one another, both would have lived. This is why Mias is so angry / annoyed when Elle sees the other self.
Since she can't be split again, he leaves the dead one in the world as her replacement and takes her (since we find out later that he still needs her to break the spell). To be honest, both versions were equally Elle--which is why they were both talking in sync up until the clone starts having a heart attack and reacting to a different stimulus. I say "clone," but Mias actually explains it as splitting Elle in two, not cloning her.
He explains later that making a clone is fragile magic--that two can't be aware of one another's existence at all. He says new life is delicate and so the new Elle (which is always the one on the right) can't cope with the shock and dies shortly after. In fact, Mias is uneasy with Elle having to see the other die and tries to lead her away as the new Elle is dying.
So, Mias did plan on taking Elle (or a magical exact copy of Elle) with him and leaving another Elle at the church, but she accidentally killed her other self by looking, which made Mias's plan impossible. So, he took the only surviving version of her.
(Literally had Chapter 1 pages 44-49 pulled up and am paraphrasing from StressedJenny's exact dialogue for this). That's what I meant. I went back and started reading from the beginning and realized that it wasn't necessarily Mias's goal to take Elle--just a version of her since either can break the spell. That's why Ledbury is so surprised later in chapter 2 to learn that she's not a copy, but rather the real and ONLY Elle left--which is why Ledbury threatens Mias that she'd better not die.
It seems Mias isn't as evil as he pretends to be, lol.
Now I really wonder what it is that the Green Man and Ledbury want with Elle, as well as who was her grandfather, and why can she undo magical locks? So many questions!

Hrm I should reread it. In my silly brain it was like he wanted her to close her eyes because he doesn't want her to see herself (dying).
The clones always die but he was considerate enough to give her the chance to avoid the trauma of seeing it.

waiting for new pages and saw all sorts of foreshadowing that I missed the first time.

He's pushy beacuse I feel Mias is someone who's just logical.

Because too many people don't fully understand cultural and societal differences.
It's just like (because it is) going somewhere and interacting with a different culture. Obviously you don't want to compromise your own boundaries if you can help it, but not immediately judging someone that acts differently than your traditional expectations dictate is also good.
The main things that make Mias unsettling are that he kidnapped her and can use freakin' magic.
Creepy? Nah. Egotistical and probably dangerous? Yes.
Elle is being reasonable, as is Mias. Based on their backgrounds and what they've learned.
I don't expect Mias has actually truly changed like some think he has, I think he's just opened up and gained a bit more respect for Elle, as well as not being in as tight a situation. I imagine if they were meeting in a more relaxed setting, he'd come across as much "nicer" to people.
Ah well, what I say isn't likely to change anyone's opinions here, but maybe it helps answer your question?

The only problems are 1) Mias is a huge ego, 2) he was a huge creeper when they first met and while he seems to be trying not to do that, he's still not super far along with that because of 1 and 3, and 3) he literally kidnapped her and that hasn't been resolved by a long talk or her freedom or a greater threat yet. Definitely heading in the right direction, though. I love how their relationship is unfolding pretty naturally.
