After seeing the musical, Quinn was nice enough to buy me the movie version of RENT.

I was choking up when Angel died. Just as I was when it was in the theatre D;

This was supposed to be a real sad death scene. BUT I ACTUALLY COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO DO IT! So instead I just left it as this, gave Nick a smile, and left out all the GORE I planned on putting in! SORRY FOR MY LACK OF TESTOSTERONE!

Nick half carried, half dragged the limp body to a dry area against a concrete wall. "God, Ellis, God, fuck. Fucking shit. Ellis." The conman's once suave words were a mix of curses as he lay the body down, breathing heavily.

How this happened he wasn't sure, but if he thought hard enough, it was probably his fault anyways. Wasn't it Nick who ran out of the safe room in an enraged fit? Wasn't it Ellis who ran after him? Wasn't it Nick who had the gun? Wasn't it Ellis who was taken by a Jockey? Wasn't it Ellis who drowned?

Where was Nick?

Here he was now, with the man he could have just killed. The man who could be dead, the only man, really, he could ever come close to saying he'll miss. Which is why Nick wouldn't believe it, Ellis had to be fine, he had to be.

How long did he try doing CPR? His own lungs began to burn, and his ears started ringing. The only heartbeat he could hear now was his own.

"Ellis, Listen..." Nick choked slightly on his words, eying the pale lips, "I'm only going to say this once, and god damned if I'm so much of a pussy that I'll say it now of all times..." Nick's cold hand came to rest on Ellis' face, stroking the rough skin with hesitant care. "I... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." The words came out in whispers, almost a strained plea.

His back sunk against the wall, Ellis' torso on his lap. He lifted the mechanic up slowly, his other hand once again on his cheek. The kiss given wasn't passionate or loving, just some type of begging.

Nick held his breath as he watched Ellis' brown eyelashes powder the skin beneath them. Ever carefully his eyes squinted open, the mechanic giving a whine of disapproval as he leaned against the arm supporting him. "Nick?" His voice cracked as his eyes adjusted.

"Hey you." Nick couldn't figure out what to say, did he just save a life? No, Ellis was alive since the beginning. Was he conscious? Oh god, Nick hoped not.

The mechanic smiled and wrapped his fingers around Nick's forearm. Nick realized his hand was still on Ellis' cheek, but he let Ellis guide his hand lower towards his chest. He felt it, and he pressed his hand harder against the cage. There it was, Ellis' heartbeat.

Despite years of training, despite all his turmoil, Nick gave a gentle smile.
