well, this is my entry for ~larfsalot 's relationship contest . -wipes brow- phew! this image took me FOREVER. i would have to say it is the most complicated image i have made thus far -- for quite a few reasons. for one, i have NEVER made an image with more than one horse in it. as you can see, there are three, count'm, three equine-friends here. so that took me awhile. i almost painted on the mane & tails for both the adult horses, but i decided i liked the smudging job i did on the chestnut better. even though you can't see it, i painted on the mane/tail for the bay horse. made the eyes for the adults, body smudging for all three, shadows, etc.. but the hardest part perhaps was creating a night-time scene. i have never done it successfully before. i tried to use ~eagle-sama 's day-to-night tutorial , but i had to change it up quite a bit to work with leh gimpeh. i know the stars suck!?!!!1 but i liked it, so whatever <3 overall, i'm extremely pleased with how this turned out.

when i had to think up of something for relationships, the first thing that i thought of, naturally, was two equines embracing each other passionately. but i didn't want to do that, as i figured a lot of other entrants would be doing that concept. so i decided to opt for a mother-child relationship, which turned into the love of a family. the three horses, in my mind, are a small family exiled from their herd for whatever reason -- all they have is each other, but that's all they need. the chestnut horse is the father; i picture him here as if he is making his rounds around his small family, making sure they are okay before he himself turns in. the mother, the bay, settles herself down beside her young & mate, comfortable to turn in for the night. the foal is relaxed with his family, unafraid of their predicament because he has those who matter the most to him. i chose the scene so the horses are what attracts your attention, & left the background generally plain so that you can see the simple, yet powerful love that the family feels for each other.
