Description FINALLY!

I've started working on this skin about 4 years ago(!), after creating this old abstract piece [link] - which was originally named "Distant Vision" - but now when the skin is done I've changed the name of the old work, because I kept the color theme for the skin (well, sort of ) but there's no real connection between these two anymore.

However, I've created a brand new wallpaper to match this skin, which you can download here: [link]

Anyway, this is by far the most complex, the most time consuming (I'm unable to tell you exact time spent on it but I think it could quite possibly be well over 150 hours!) and simply THE BEST Winamp skin I've ever created (and maybe the best I'll ever create because I really don't feel like starting another one in a near future ). I believe the idea of making four different versions so you can dock graphical equalizer to the main window on three different sides and still get seamless background (or you can turn the EQ off and the main window will work on its own - that's what the fourth version is for) is quite unique itself and it tells much about how perfect I wanted this one to be... And I dare to say I've succeeded! Because this skin is most likely like nothing you've ever seen in Winamp skin... It's not all about nice picture in the background, trying to show as much of it as possible, thus trading looks for usability and it's not another high-tech metal gadget either (with all respect to the few awesome metal skins I've seen, this theme has became f***ing overused and boring in my opinion ). This, ladies and gentlemen, is more like interactive painting. Easy (and pleasant) on eyes, easy to use and very detailed. Every control button is visible and usually easy to understand - and if you're still wondering what a certain button does, just hold your pointer over it for a while to see the tooltip. As for the small buttons on bottom of a playlist, if you're not familiar with their functions, you can right click them to bring a pop-up menu which shows you all the functions, so you can easily figure out what do the abbreviations on the skinned buttons stand for.

Compatible with Winamp 5+ (and much faster than modern skins - if you multitask a lot, you WILL notice the difference)

FAQ:

What are the different versions?
Distant Vision 1.00 - version for basic Winamp window layout = equalizer docked below the main window
Distant Vision 1.00 EQL - equalizer docked on the left
Distant Vision 1.00 EQR - equalizer docked on the right
Distant Vision 1.00 EQS - equalizer separate (meant basically for turning it off)

In the playlist mini buttons, when I click the "minus", there's an option "INV" instead of "CROP". Why?
Because I needed three letter variant and "CRP" or "CRO" didn't look good in my opinion. The "INV" stands for "Inversion" so it makes perfect sense anyway

Why the hell it took you 4 years to create this??!
Many long breaks, many hobbies and stuff to do and yes - a bit of laziness, I guess. Sorry

How did you create the background for the skin?
It's based on one of my photos (and greatly enhanced in Photoshop ).

And that's all folks. Hope you like it!

Oh, thank you That's very nice to know! I was beginning to think it would remain completely overlooked. It didn't get much attention here (no surprise - I think most people already switched to modern skins) and it took like forever for the Winamp.com staff to review. So I was rather disappointed when after that long wait they had nothing more to say about it but "Nice looking classic skin.", especially since high quality Winamp classic skins seem to be extremely rare these days - most people just use Skinner to create picture based quickies and amongst those who don't, the prevailing creative theme is high-tech metal gadget over and over again (even though some of those skins definitely are amazing and full of wonderful details, I'm still bored by them already)... So I tried to create something unique and different but it didn't seem to be appreaciated by many people so far.

So it's nice to know someone's probably going to use it after all Even though the official Winamp.com site seems to be rather neglected in terms of publishing skins and/or getting any feedback on them (as mentioned above, the staff review time was extremely long, they have very restrictive thumbnails, few people leave comments there and the site keeps returning errors when I tried to update my profile - so I can't change a darn thing). But still, at least someone's downloading it...

So, thank you once more and have a nice day!

Thank you very much Do you actually use Winamp or do you just like the design? (Trust me, it's much better to see it at work than seeing a static preview.)

You bet it does! And Winamp has been unmatched in music playback capabilities on PC for years. I can't recommend it for video playback (I prefer Media Player Classic for it) but if you want fast and stable (not only) MP3 player with tons of options (you can customize virtually anything, from song titles to global hotkeys), very smart (and fast) Media library, on-line media streaming etc. etc., which you can keep running in background all the time without worrying about slowing down other apps, forget about the stupid thing called Media Player and get Winamp

Wow, I can't imagine having YouTube as a main source of music. It's fine as a preview when I discover a new band and I want to listen to a song or two so I know if it's worth downloading buying but lot of music is only available in poor quality on YouTube (yes, there IS a huge difference between 128 and 320 kbps MP3 ), creating playlists is slow and cumbersome, you rarely find whole albums there, if you want to pause the song that's playing, you have to bring up the internet browser, pinpoint the tab with the video and click (compare it to simply hitting "Pause" on my keyboard which I can do anytime thanks to Winamp's global hotkeys - even when Winamp is not in focus) and I can't express how much I hate when I'm enjoying a song and it LAGS!

Not to mention when you play single songs on YouTube, it stops after each of them, demanding your attention to choose another one, which is very disturbing when I'm working. I simply put like 50 songs in my playlist, set in on random (or not - depends on the mood) and I'm fine for about 4 hours. And then, when I get bored by the music in the playlist it takes me like one minute to choose and play 50 (or 100+) completely different songs - instantly
