Description Happy Birthday ! This one's for you, Man!

My good friend *ayelid has a talent for drawing the fairer sex. I thought I'd try and do him proud with this one, mixing in my own flavour. I hope he likes it!

I'm quite comfortable with perspective but the challenge here was to capture that night-time atmosphere to really put Black Cat in her environment. Obviously there's a limitation to do that with pencils so I'm hoping inks and colours will complete the job.

I'd really like to complete the gift by having this one inked and coloured so if there's anyone out there who'd like to ink this, I'd be really grateful.

thanks a lot! it was a lot of work to draw this one. the first time I put so much detail in buildings.

with buildings I think it is easier to learn how to draw them, compared to human figures. There are certain rules to follow with perspective etc, and gradually you can get there. This one was made using a photo reference to get an idea of the type of perspective to use. I would always advise using references in the early stages. Not just to copy details, but to get an idea of the view and angle you want, and how to use lines of perspective to recreate something similar to a real-life photo.

Great job with the environment on this! The buildings look detailed and the perspective is spot on!

The perspective of the picture is amazing. It's by no means a static image. The sense of movement is quite tangible.

StudioCombine In reply to Stigmartyr762 [2011-06-03 06:55:47 +0000 UTC]

the 'static' you mention was a concern for me, as the background was kind of an afterthought and not planned together with BC. but I'm glad that it works nonetheless. thank you.

Stigmartyr762 In reply to StudioCombine [2011-06-03 07:04:05 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! The part that truly gets me is even though the back ground is so massive it doesn't detract or drown out BC in the slightest.

well that's the best compliment you could give this piece. the worst thing that can happen is spending so much time on a background, only to detract from the character. thanks a lot!

Well I'd love to do the colouring part! I've never inked so I imagine that my attempt would like I'd face planted it! You did an awesome job on this!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StudioCombine In reply to Plugin848y [2011-02-24 16:27:36 +0000 UTC]

that would be great... i was thinking of going back and seeing what I can do in photoshop to clean up the lines and darken it a bit... ie getting it 'inks-like' as much as possible... that should make it much better to colour...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plugin848y In reply to StudioCombine [2011-02-24 16:31:55 +0000 UTC]

I'll ive it a whirl as is As long as any other inky type ones are uploaded at the same size it should be easy enough to transfer across the colours, unless there's an easier way of doing that... I'm sure there is, I'm a bit of a technophobe
I've still gotta put your spidey ones up here as well!

StudioCombine In reply to Plugin848y [2011-02-24 18:19:37 +0000 UTC]

great. i think there's lots of potential here to play with the light filtering upwards from the streets and the buildings... i've really been looking forward to seeing this coloured..

That's exactly what I was thinking! I really want to play with some city smog being lit by the buildings and the glow from rushing traffic like she's caught in a snapshot I'm going to have SO much fun with this, I can just tell, even the quarter of an hour I worked on it ith the base colours I enjoyed Thanks so much for this dude

thanks a lot! I really wanted to draw an 'appealing' Black Cat. that was the main aim, and I'm glad I was able to do that. with the cityscape, i wanted it to be impressive to add that sense of danger and fun. glad you like it!

thank you. with this one all the VPs are off the page, which I thought might be a bit more realistic.. as sometimes with VPs within the page it sometimes seems very forced/extreme. glad you like it, and thanks for the feedback.
