Its really nice to see someone else who is into ceramics, this is the first Ive seen anyway...not that I have any of my work on here..maybe I should...anyway.. this is very creative..I love the colors and maybe its just the photo but I think the glazes came out great - gives it a natural feel - did you mix the glaze yourself?

I can't rember what the glaze was, but I didn't mix it. I was some mystery raku glaze I found under the sink in our school's glaze room...

That's incredible. I swore it really was a shell, or a rock, or something of the sort. It certainly is a piece to enjoy.

Sorry for a stupid question. What is a raku?

Actually, before being quenched the hot raku piece is buried in sawdust, newspaper, or some other falmable material, and is sealed off to smoulder for a while. That is how you get that dark black in the bare clay.
*though on this piece the pot wasn't completely buried so that's why the spiral isn't completely black . Funny how mistakes can have such awesome results sometimes...

Wow, I don't have any idea what it is but it's cool. Reminds me of Tim Burton style things.

Great piece! Much better than any of the raku pieces I ever made. I love the hint of shell. And by the way, apparently glazes for raku aren't trivial. One of the things I learned is put PLENTY of glaze on.

yeah, I learned that the hard way... I've had a lot of crappy raku pots.

I haven't had the opportunity to make enough crappy raku pots. Maybe someday.

When I first saw the little thumbnail for this peice I actual thought it was a hermit crab reaching out from its shell. Nicely done. Not sure if thats what you were going for but I like it.

thanks, yeah, raku can be a challenge to get to work out, but when it dose... ooh, the colors. I've never had that much success with glazes though...
