Plague doctor done in charcoal. Took about an hour and a half, but most of it was just adding charcoal. It was interesting to sketch, and many thanks to *DraculeaRiccy for her reference photo!Related content

Despite the underlying creepiness that is the plague doctor, I find this picture beautiful.
I will never comprehend how people make images out of charcoal, but that doesn't mean I can't admire them.

Wow, this is really, really good... I love how it's mostly dark with little detail, but there's just enough shading in the lighter parts to make it realistic. The texture of that hat, especially, is very lifelike.
I found the original photo and compared the two. You did a very good job referencing it, as they're very similar, however you made the head a tad less wide.
Don't worry though, I still love this.

Awesome. I just uploaded a plague doctor drawing myself, but now that I've had a look around at some other plague docs I'm getting excited to push it a bit further. I love the film noir feel of this sketch.

Why, thank you! This was somewhat challenging to do without getting a bunch of charcoal on the white area. The intimidation effect, I'm afraid, I cannot take credit for. I believe that prize goes to the photographer--I cannot claim originality for this drawing. Think of it as a contrast study.

I've actually seen the photo you're referring to. I don't find it intimidating, it was a nice picture taken, but it hid too much, and your angle seems to be working it the best.
