Description This is a large box (around 17" by 10" by 5" high) with a marquetry lid.  The lid is made from Kauri wood veneer, a tree native to New Zealand.  The Kauri is framed by maple veneer.  I made a mistake and made the top lower into the box than necessary, so I decided to pour over a 1/4" two-part epoxy into the recess, and placed some objects into it so that
they look like they're under water.  The irregular shapes are Abalone shell.  Kauri wood comes from 50,000 year-old logs that are dug up.   The box is also has some Kauri veneer on the inside of the lid, which is also has around 1/8" deep two-part epoxy poured into it.  The box itself is made from mahogany, with walnut handles.

The box is resting on my Kauri kitchen table, which was made from the same lot of veneer!
